This 1966 Jaguar XKE is Series I coupe that was manufactured on April 21, 1966 and dispatched new through Sommer in Copenhagen, Denmark. The car was imported to the US early in its life and is said to have spent over 40 years with a single family in Modesto, California before being sold to its previous owner, from whom it was was acquired by the seller in 2015. A subsequent four-year project included a repaint in Opalescent Silver Grey, interior retrimming, and a rebuild of its replacement 4.2-liter DOHC inline-six according to the seller. Modifications added include a Cosworth five-speed manual transmission, adjustable front shock absorbers, performance torsion and sway bars, a CoolCat aluminum radiator and electric cooling fan, and an updated cabin ventilation fan. This E-Type is offered with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, invoices and photos from the restoration, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.

Originally finished in Opalescent Silver Grey, the body was repainted in yellow and fitted with a Series II-style front end at an unknown point in the past. Bodywork carried out by Pumphrey & Co. in Campbell, California under current ownership included fitting a Series I hood with faired-in headlights, a small grille, and split bumpers. The body was placed on a rotisserie for a repaint in its factory color by Images Autobody, also of Campbell.

New body seals and side window glass were installed, and brightwork was replaced or rechromed. Triplex glass etchings are shown on the windshield, backlight, and quarter windows in the gallery below. Chrome-finished 15” wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-offs and wear Universal Sport Radial tires with 2017 date codes. A matching spare is housed in the rear compartment.

The cabin was retrimmed in black leather from Muncie Imports & Classics, matching the interior color indicated on the JHT certificate. Color-keyed upholstery covers the doors panels, console, dash, and rear cargo compartment, while matching carpets and rubber floor mats line the footwells. An updated interior ventilation fan was installed.

A wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a Smiths 160-mph speedometer and tachometer, the latter of which features an inset clock. The seller notes that the speedometer will need to be calibrated in accordance with the transmission change. Approximately 83k miles are shown on the five-digit odometer, 500 of which have been added since completion of the project. The center dash houses Smiths coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level gauges as well as a Lucas ammeter.

The 4.2-liter XK inline-six was overhauled with new 9:1-compression pistons and bearings according to the seller, who also notes that the block was modified to accommodate an updated rear main seal and a fluid harmonic balancer was added. The cylinder head was rebuilt and fitted with tappet guide retainers, and the triple SU carburetors were serviced. Additional modifications include an updated electric starter, a CoolCat aluminum radiator, and a CoolCat electric cooling fan. New electrical wiring was also installed during the refurbishment with invoices totaling over $90k.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Cosworth five-speed manual transmission, which was installed with a new clutch and pressure plate. The four-wheel independent suspension was rebuilt, with Gaz adjustable shock absorbers as well as performance torsion bars added up front and aftermarket sway bars installed at both ends. The four-wheel disc brakes were also overhauled.

The JHT certificate lists the original colors and equipment as well as delivery to Copenhagen.

This 1966 Jaguar XKE is a Series I coupe that was manufactured on April 21, 1966, and dispatched new through Sommer in Copenhagen, Denmark, before being imported to the US. The car is said to have subsequently spent over 40 years with a single family in California and underwent refurbishment work prior to the current owner’s acquisition on BaT in May 2021. The car is finished in Opalescent Silver Grey over black leather upholstery and is powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six mated to a Cosworth five-speed manual transmission. Additional modifications consist of adjustable front shock absorbers, performance torsion and sway bars, and a CoolCat aluminum radiator with an electric cooling fan. Work performed during current ownership included installation of a Clayton Classics air conditioning system, a high-output alternator, and a Walpres side mirror. This E-type is offered by the seller on behalf of the current owner in Wisconsin with service records, refurbishment photos, and a clean Montana title in the current owner’s business name.

Finished from the factory in Opalescent Silver Grey, the car was repainted in yellow and fitted with a Series II-style front end at an unknown point in the past. Bodywork carried out by Pumphrey & Co. in Campbell, California, during previous ownership included fitting a Series I hood with faired-in headlights, a small grille, and split bumpers. The body was then placed on a rotisserie for a repaint in its factory color in 2016 by Images Autobody, also of Campbell. A Walpres driver-side mirror was installed during current ownership.

Chrome-finished 15” wire wheels wear two-eared knock-offs and are mounted with 185-series Universal Sport tires that show 2017 date codes. The suspension and brake systems were reportedly overhauled during previous ownership. The car is equipped with adjustable front shock absorbers as well as performance torsion and sway bars, while stopping power is handled by four-wheel disc brakes with inboard rear rotors.

The cabin features bucket seats trimmed in black leather upholstery along with a matching dashboard, doors panels, carpeting, and rubber floor liners. An aftermarket air conditioning system from Clayton Classics was installed during current ownership, and additional amenities include lap belts, a padded armrest, toggle switches, and pop-out rear vent windows.

A three-spoke wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline and inset clock, and auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage. The five-digit odometer shows under 85k miles, approximately 2k of which have been added during current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.

The 4.2-liter XK inline-six was reportedly overhauled during previous ownership and features triple SU carburetors. Modifications include an updated electric starter, a fluid harmonic balancer, an updated rear main seal, and a CoolCat aluminum radiator with an electric fan. Work carried out during current ownership involved installation of a high-output alternator.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Cosworth five-speed manual transmission that was installed during previous ownership.

A collection of photos taken during various stages of refurbishment work are included.
