Ebay item 3/14/06
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jaguar-E-Type-XKE-1969-Jaguar-E-Type-Series-II-Coupe-4-2 ...
Current bid $5,900, reserve not met , 6 bids, 6 days left in auction. VIN on this car J691R26334.
Sellers description:
an exceptionally nice 1969 Jaguar E-Type Series II Coupe that was recently released from an estate in Carmel, California. According to his widow, the elderly gentleman had been the proud owner of his 'baby' for over 32+ years. With the exception of a color change many years ago, it appears to be very original and while it could be driven and enjoyed just the way it is, it needs and definitely deserves to get a new, gorgeous restoration! It has been in inside storage for most of its' life and has not been driven much in the past 5 years although it was last registered in 2004. This is a 4.2 Liter 6 cylinder car with the super desirable 4 spd transmission.
The VIN tag shows the following component numbers: Serial # 1R26334, Body # 4R21629, Engine # 7R5544-9, Gear Box # KE7005. The serial # matches the windshield post and frame stamping numbers. The number stamped on the right side of the engine block is 7E14260-9 which I suspect would indicate a replaced engine at some point. The engine does appear to be fresher in appearance than the rest of the car and it runs great so we can probably assume that it may have had a rebuilt engine installed at some point. The odometer shows 84,704 miles which we believe to be original although we can't verify due to the estate situation.
The body is absolutely beautiful in the sense that it is relatively straight and very solid with no signs of any prior accident history. In the interest of full disclosure, I will mention that there are two tiny 1" holes the thickness of a pencil located in the floor pan, otherwise it really is as rock solid and rust free as you would expect a California car to be! The rockers, belly pans and floor pans are rust free. There are no patches or replaced sheet metal and other than a few dents in the floor pan from a misaligned floor jack, what you see is what you get! The very vulnerable front edge of the bonnet itself is unhit with no previous repairs evident. The paint is probably 20+ years old and is a very respectable, driver quality finish although to be really nice, you will want to give it a gorgeous new finish! The chrome is largely original and very respectable with no pits or rust, but will need to be redone, as well, to be beautiful again. The rear window stainless trim is included although the windshield trim is missing. All the weatherstripping and window rubbers have dried out with age and will need to be replaced. The glass is all in nice condition and the driver's outside door handle is inoperable.
The interior is original and relatively untouched and unmolested. It is in very respectable condition, but would also eventually benefit from a new interior kit. The dash is in very nice condition and the dash pad is near perfect. The gauges are clean and bright. Other than the normal age cracks, the leather seats are fairly decent and the headliner is also nice but sags a little. The carpets are faded and the rear vinyl floor is very good. The vinyl around the rear quarter windows is separating and needs repair. The gauges all seem to work as they should with the exception of the clock although the fuse blows once in awhile so that needs attention. The radio is an AM /FM Pioneer radio and it plays well and the power antenna also works well. The wipers and headlights work well although the taillight switch is faulty. The instrument lights and horn also need repair.
This is, all in all, a very nice car mechanically, needing only some tinkering. The motor runs very well and doesn't smoke or have any appreciable leaks. The transmission up-shifts and down-shifts very well, as it should and the clutch feels strong. It has a new clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder. The brakes feel good and the exhaust, while not loud, has some holes and should be replaced. The tires are old and weather checked and should be replaced prior to any use. The battery is new and it starts very well. I have driven it only a short distance but it appears to drive and handle very well! I am not a Jaguar expert and I have tried to describe it to the best of my ability, so I would recommend that it be thoroughly checked over prior to any extended use.
