This 1972 Jaguar E-Type is a Series III roadster that was reportedly sold new in New York and spent time in California before it was acquired by the seller in 2015. An ensuing multi-year restoration was completed in 2020 and included bodywork and a repaint in Signal Red by Classic Cars of Houston in Texas as well as a refresh of the black leather interior. Power comes from a rebuilt, numbers-matching 5.3-liter V12 paired with a four-speed manual transmission, and features include quad Zenith-Stromberg carburetors, four-wheel disc brakes, an aluminum radiator, electric fans, an SNG Barratt HE ignition, a stainless-steel exhaust system with custom quad exhaust tips, and a RetroSound Bluetooth stereo. This E-Type is now offered with factory books, tools, a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, restoration records and photos, and a clean Texas title in the seller’s name.

The body was stripped and media blasted before previous collision damage on the left quarter panel was repaired and patches were fitted on the quarter panels, floors, trunk, and rear wheel wells. Rust repair was also performed on the driver’s seat bracket before the car was coated in epoxy primer and repainted Signal Red by Classic Cars of Houston in 2019. The bumpers were re-chromed, and replacement dual side mirrors were also installed. The top bows were refurbished and painted before a black mohair soft top was installed in 2020.

The chrome 15″ knock-off wire wheels are mounted with redline radial tires that were fitted during the restoration. A matching spare wheel is mounted beneath the trunk floor. The independent rear suspension was rebuilt, and replacement torsion bars, radius arms and bushings, shocks, springs, and tie rod ends were fitted. Work performed on the brake system included a rebuild of the calipers with new seals and stainless steel pistons as well as the installation of remote brake bleeders, stainless steel lines, and new handbrake pads.

The cockpit features bucket seats that were reupholstered in black leather. Dynamat sound insulation is fitted beneath the replacement carpets and door panels that were sourced from Aldrige Trimming Ltd. Features include a RetroSound Bluetooth stereo, Kenwood speakers, and three-point seatbelts with replacement webbing.

The three-spoke steering wheel was recovered during the restoration and frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and center-mounted auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows under 24k miles, approximately 1,100 of which were added after the restoration. Total mileage is unknown.

The 5.3-liter V12 was rebuilt during the restoration with new piston rings, bearings, gaskets, head studs, a timing chain and tensioner, exhaust headers, a spin-on oil filter, and valves, guides, and seals. Machine work was performed by Scroggins Machine Inc. of Houston, Texas. Features quad side-draft Zenith-Stromberg carburetors, an SNG Barratt HE ignition, a Ron Davis aluminum radiator, and dual electric fans. Cylinder compression test results can be seen in the gallery below.

Engine stamping 7S7439SB matches the chassis tag and the Jaguar Heritage Certificate. A replacement chassis tag is currently fitted, the original piece is available.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission. Replacement clutch cylinders have been installed along with a drive plate, cover, and release bearing. A stainless steel exhaust system with custom quad exhaust tips was installed during the restoration.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate lists the factory colors and powertrain numbers and shows a September 7, 1972, date of manufacture.
