    Azure Blue on Biscuit
    MIleage: 49,351 miles
    Date of Manufacture: June 1973
    Matching Numbers:
    VIN: #UD 1S.22965
    Body#: 4S4877
    Engine#: 7S12145 LA
    Gearbox#: KL 5752 (4 speed Manual)

This Series 3 E Type is a very original car that was never rusted or damaged. It has had one repaint in the original Azure Blue colour and a new canvas soft top and tonneau cover. The car retains its original un-rusted floor pans and trunk floor. The undercarriage of the car is extremely well preserved. The interior is in excellent original condition showing just the right amount of patina without looking worn.

A Cosmetic Restoration and mechanical refurbishment was undertaken in 2004 by Brooklands Restoration in Calgary, Canada with receipts totalling more than $48,000 and included:

-Bare metal respray in the original Azure Blue colour
-New Biscuit cloth soft top, tonneau cover and refurbished top frame
-Complete mechanical overhaul including rebuilding the cars major mechanical systems including:
Rear subframe, suspension and complete braking system, cooling system,
Carburetors, Exhaust, fuel system, suspension, electrical components.
-New Chrome spoke wheels with period correct Pirelli CN36 radials
    -Conversion to Electronic Ignition

The car was then sold in 2007 to a friend of the previous owner for $C58,000 at approximately 48,300miles. He the drove the car sparingly and spent an additional $5,000 on maintenance.

The car was appraised by Scott Hobbs of Appreciated Appraisal Group on June 8, 2007 with 48,363miles for $C58,000.

The car was given an inspection and was appraised by Mick Burke at British Auto Specialists on May 14, 2010 for $C72,000. A compression test revealed even compression of between 110psi and 120psi across all 12 cylinders.

I purchased the car in December 2011 with 49,351 miles. The car runs and shows extremely well and is very pretty in the Azure Blue, a rare colour for an E Type, only available in 1973 and 1974. There are no signs that the vehicle was ever involved in a collision. The shut lines of the bonnet are excellent as is the door fit. There is no evidence of rust in the floors or sills and the body shell remains in excellent condition. The floor pans and trunk floor still have their original blue paint which is in excellent condition.

The leather interior is original and the seats have a wonderful patina. Carpets and trim are very good to excellent. Door cards, centre console and other interior trim is very good to excellent. Dash and gauges are excellent.

This Jaguar drives extremely well. The engine when cold fires up instantly and settles after a few minutes of warm up into a wonderfully busy idle. Oil pressure shows an immediate 80psi and drops to approx 40psi when fully warmed up. On the move, the pressure reads between 50psi and 80psi depending on engine speed. The engine pulls cleanly from low rpm. This is a quick car even by todays standards, and will accelerate strongly well past 100mph. Shift action is positive with no grinding from the syncros. Clutch action is not unreasonably heavy, and easy to modulate. There is no release bearing noise when it neutral.

Most impressively the car has very little vibration, shaking, clunking etc. that most open British roadsters are known for. At highway speeds and beyond the car stays vibration free and tracks straight and true and is unsettled by bumps. In fact it is one of the best driving vintage cars that I have ever sampled. There are no suspension noises, the brakes are strong and stop the car true, and the car corners predictably. Everything appears to work which is unusual as well-all lights, horn, blower motors, wipers etc. etc. all function.

    Summary
With the $50,000 cosmetic restoration and full mechanical refurbishment the car is better than a 'driver', but is not a concours car or garage queen. Perhaps the one item that 'brings the car down' from 'concours' is the presentation of the engine bay, which is serviceable, but has never had any detail work performed and shows what one would expect of a well maintained 50,000mile vehicle. On most other cars nobody would care, but because the Jag's entire front end opens up it puts the interior of the wheel arches and tubular structure on show making it difficult to resist trying to keep it all spotless. This is just fine for somebody who wants to use the car, but would benefit from detailing if the car was to be shown.

Known issues include a scratch in the RHS rear fender from a shovel, and some scratches on the LHS door from the elderly owner getting in and out. These are getting expertly touched up. The car has its share of oil leaks, and the car is a bit messy underneath leaving some oil spotting on the garage floor when parked-no puddles, just small spots. The car benefitted from a fluid service including 0-40 Synthetic engine oil, brake fluid flush and coolant flush in Dec 2011 at Distinctive Collection (Calgary Bentley/Aston Martin).

It is very rare to find an E Type that has not been rusted, and this is such a car-It has never been taken apart and it retains all of its original panels, the structural integrity of the body tub, factory shut lines etc, etc.

This particular E Type is a great example of a popular classic car in a rare, vibrant period colour on the optional wire wheels that is sure to get much positive attention wherever it is driven or shown. Due to its extraordinary preservation it will always be a 'good' car and can either be driven and enjoyed, or brought up to 'concours' relatively easily if so desired.

This 1973 Jaguar E-Type is a Series III roadster that was built on June 8, 1973 and originally distributed through British Leyland of Canada. The car was acquired by the seller in 2012 out of Georgia, and subsequent work is said to have involved rebuilds of the 5.3-liter V12, four-speed manual transmission, and quad Zenith-Stromberg carburetors. The interior was re-trimmed in tan leather upholstery and a color-coordinated soft-top was also installed. Additional equipment includes quad exhaust outlets, knock-off wire wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, power steering, a louvered front-hinged hood, Euro-style bumpers, a heater, and a push-button radio. This XKE is offered with repair and service manuals, service records beginning in 2004, a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate, and a clean Florida title in the seller’s name.

The body was finished from the factory in Azure Blue and is said to have been repainted in 2004. The seller states that clear coat was re-applied to the exterior in 2020, and the weatherstripping and door handles were replaced. A tan soft top was fitted under current ownership, and further exterior details include a louvered front-hinged hood, a left-side mirror, Euro-style chrome bumpers with overriders, and quadruple exhaust outlets. A crack in the paint is noted on the hood.

Chrome-finished wire wheels are secured via knock-off hubs and wear Kumho Solus TA11 tires. The car is equipped with power steering, and stopping power is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rears.

The cabin houses high-back bucket seats that were reupholstered in tan leather during current ownership. Additional appointments include a heater/defroster, three-point seat belts, black rubber floor mats, an AM/FM push-button radio, and a replacement analog clock. The remote-mirror control is damaged.

A three-spoke steering wheels fronts Smiths instrumentation that consists of a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and a suite of auxiliary gauges in the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 57k miles, approximately 9k of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.

The 5.3-liter V12 is said to have been rebuilt under current ownership, along with the quad Zenith-Stromberg carburetors. The seller states that the fuel tank and various relays have been replaced, and a cooling fan override switch was installed in the dash. An oil change was performed in February 2023.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission that was reportedly rebuilt under current ownership. The seller notes corrosion on the exhaust components, and additional underside images are presented in the gallery below.

The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate lists a manufacture date of June 8, 1973, as well as factory colors and serial numbers.

Azure Blue with Biscuit Leather interior. Jaguar offered this brilliant color blue (sky blue essentially) for only two Model yrs – 1973 and 1974. The five-digit odometer shows 57,600 miles. The first owner, a Canadian, had the car until 2012, at which time it apparently went to the (next) second owner, a Georgian, who spent a lot of time (and money) wonderfully refurbishing the car to its original standard. Car is rust and accident-free solid body, as per detailed independent inspection by a respected local restoration shop in Manassas, Virginia some months ago. The 5.3-liter V12 was factory equipped with quadruple Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and was rated at 241 horsepower and 285 lb.-ft of torque when new. Engine operates perfectly with no issues, and everything works except radio.

Under previous ownership the engine, transmission and related were rebuilt. The electrical system has been completely modernized to include electronic ignition. Car was repainted in 2004, and fresh clear coat was re-applied to the exterior in 2020. Other than two 1 inch minor scratches, the paint is flawless. Weatherstripping and door handles were replaced in 2020. In Dec 2023, every single hinge, latch and pivot point was meticulously serviced and lubricated. Chrome finished 15” Wire wheels are spotless and pristine. Braking is through four-wheel discs. Clutch was recently evaluated and is in excellent shape. Four new Kumho Solus TA11 tires were installed circa early 2019.

The interior was re-trimmed in tan leather upholstery, new foam, and a color-coordinated soft-top was also installed. Tonneau cover is in pristine condition as well. Additional equipment includes quad exhaust outlets, knock-off wire wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, power steering, a louvered front-hinged hood, European-style bumpers, a heater, and a push-button AM/FM pushbutton radio (not functional). Dashboard and door panels in excellent condition. Both doors close completely and without issue. Original carpeting in excellent condition along with original trunk lining. Comes with original jack, tools, hammer and hub Knock-off tool. Spare tire is dated and has pristine wire wheel. Newer stainless steel exhaust system with Quad exhaust outlets. All chrome is in excellent condition. The Production Record Trace Certificate lists manufacturing date of June 8th, 1973 in original color combination and matching numbers engine and body.

Comes with 3 keys, comprehensive service records spanning 20 years, the aforementioned tools, original Owners manuals, a Jaguar-published Service Manual, and a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate. The car has a clean Virginia Title in the Owner’s name. In addition, numerous small parts convey as well. A beautiful example and super-fun driver, verging on Concours level quality –
