Ebay item 8/7/13
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1972-Jaguar-XKE-Base-5-3L-/190881751093
Current bid $8,200.99 reserve not met 12 bids 6 days left in auction.

Sellers description:
1972 Jaguar XKE, I bought this car at an auction in 2000. It's time to sell it. The car had a restoration prior to my buying it, unfortunately the seats were recovered in vinyl, not leather as would have been proper. Otherwise the seats are in very good condition, as is the interior with the exception of some cosmetic flaws to be expected in a 41 year old car and an older restoration. The AC is cooling a little and I have never had the system charged, but I am including 2 cans of R12 with the car. The steering wheel has some black tape on it, but I am including another proper steering wheel with the car in very good condition. The paint has numerous small flaws but you can see from the picture the car still shines and shows well. The body is very straight with one little nickle sized dimple on the hood that I tried to photograph but gave up what with the silver paint couldn't really capture it. There is an area on the drivers side rear rocker that appears to be a bad repair or repair gone bad that came with the car and hasn't got any worse. All in all the car has a very straight body. The floorboards are rust free as is the trunk bottom. The underside of the car shows some surface rust on some of the components. The steering rack boots need to be replaced.
Now for the fun stuff. All the glass is very good as is the rubber around it. This is a beautiful color for this car, it has factory AC, and the desirable 4 speed. I have not really driven this car much but the motor and transmission are strong. The car runs out very well. I had a problem with the plugs fouling, cleaned them and the motor runs out very strong right now. I bought 12 new NGK plugs which I have not put in and they will go with the car unless I have any more fouling problems. The carbs probably need some attention. As do the brakes only because I have never serviced them and the brake light is on. They work fine and if all the brake fluid were renewed I think the brake light would go out. The cooling system does not leak but I am sure could use flushing. This is why I am selling the car, I have not been able to keep up with the maintenance and love the car needs. Last time I showed the car at a local British Car Club it placed 3rd out of 8 E types, all of which were worth more money than mine.
So if you want a very nice driver that the average Joe thinks is a very expensive car this would be an excellent car, or if you want a Concours car but can't afford one, this car would be an excellent starting point. They say if you want to restore a car buy the best one you can find. I want to make sure this car sells so that I only do this once so the reserve on the car will be well below what Haggerty values the car. The only other thing I can think of is the fuel pump was changed by a local shop when I took the car in a year ago with starting issues, and I ended up taking out the fuel pump they put in and put a carter inline fuel pump in myself, but I still have the original double ended pump that is original to the car. Not sure there is any thing wrong with it. Also the dip switch on the headlights has gone bad and needs renewed. I tried turning on the radio the other day and the electric antennae worked but the factory AM FM radio wasn't working. Also the odometer reads 76,000 but the speedometer has not worked since I have owned the car. Also the drivers side door handle button is not wanting to work but I will try to repair before the car is delivered.
The chrome wire wheels are the original knockoff wheels that came with the car. They polish up very nicely but there is some minor rust damage that is very hard to see when the wheels are polished.

Sellers description:
West Coast Classics are proud to present an exceptional and very rare and virtually completely original apart from one older repaint on a barn-fresh (garage really!) find!! A rust free example of this coveted Series III 1972 Jaguar XKE 2+2 V12 coupe with the very desirable 4 speed manual transmission and its original matching #'s (7S7910SA) 5.4L V12 engine in a most striking Silver color with a black interior and carpets and factory air conditioning and power steering! This beauty also boasts five original chrome wire wheels, including its original spare in the trunk with knock off mallet!

This particular car has a thick file of extensive service records showing that at no time was any expense spared on this vehicle's preventive maintenance and its original matching #'s 5.4L V12 engine runs as smooth as silk and the transmission shifts smoothly through all the gears. The car has no rust to speak of with the floor boards and all the typical rust-prone areas very solid! The car shows no signs of any accidents of any kind and has a very straight body with only very minor imperfections noticeable upon very close inspection. The car looks extremely impressive with its Silver color paint with a black interior with the door panels, dashboard, seats and carpets all in very fine condition throughout. The car also boasts four optional factory chrome wire wheels which are also in great shape and the car has its original spare wire wheel located in the trunk.

This is a rare opportunity to own a very striking and great daily driving example of an obviously always well maintained and garaged 1972 Jaguar XKE V12 E-Type 2+2 Series III Coupe with a very desirable 4 speed manual transmission in very fine condition throughout!

Recent Oil Change & Float Repair

Private Party or Dealer: Private Party

This 1972 Jaguar E-Type is a 2+2 coupe which is powered by its original 5.3-liter V12 backed by a 4-speed manual transmission. The car is finished in silver over black leather and equipped with air conditioning, a period radio, and US-market lighting. It was acquired from Beaverton, Oregon for the collection of its current owner three years ago, and received an oil and filter change as well as a carburetor float repair in December 2018. This E-Type is offered by the seller on behalf of its current owner with a clean North Carolina title.

The seller reports that the silver finish appears to be an older repaint and is worn through at the bottoms of the rocker panels. Rust spots are noted in the lower doors, while scratches, touched-up chips, and other blemishes are shown in the gallery below. The car has reportedly been in climate-controlled storage since 2016. Chrome 15″ knock-off wire wheels are fitted with Dunlop tires showing 2003 date codes. The car retains US-market lighting including amber and red side markers.

The cabin is upholstered in black leather with matching carpets and plastics. A factory 3-spoke steering wheel, shifter, and air conditioning system are present along with a period radio. A split seam is visible at the center of the driver’s seat, the glovebox does not open, and the driver’s seat belt winder is not functional according to the seller.

Factory instrumentation includes a 160 mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 6,500 rpm redline, and a quartet of supplementary gauges. Approximately 75k miles are shown on the 5-digit odometer.

The 5.3-liter V12 is equipped with four Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and sends power to the rear wheels via a 4-speed manual transmission. An oil and filter change was recently performed, and one of the carburetor floats was repaired. The battery is weak and the car needs to be started with a jump pack per the seller.

Engine number 7S7910SA corresponds to the stamp shown on the body tag. The exhaust system may be from an earlier car according to the seller.
