•Matching numbers

•Exceptionally original and un-restored

•Offered from an important Belgian private collection

This exceptionally original Jaguar E-Type (XKE) roadster was built on 13th October 1970 and despatched to British Leyland, New York, USA. It was purchased new by Mr Edwaard Manemann, who took great care of his Jaguar until he died on 14th February 2013. In 2015, his wife Barbara Manemann sold the car to the current vendor, a prominent Belgian private collector, at which time it had covered only 39,790 miles. This car has the four-speed manual transmission and the original factory options of wire wheels, tinted glass, and an AM/FM radio, while the accompanying Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate confirms that it retains matching numbers.

Very presentable, this Series 2 E-Type retains its factory colour scheme of black with matching convertible top and a stunning original red leather interior - a very rare and striking combination. Apart from some minor retouching at the upper end of the boot, the paintwork is original, and we are advised that there is no rust underneath. Brightwork is described as beautiful and the convertible top as excellent. The car rolls on Michelin Red Line radial tyres and comes complete with the original un-used spare wheel. We are advised by the vendor that the E-Type is in excellent running condition with everything working perfectly including the gauges and lights.

Owned by a single family for almost its entire life, the car comes with exceptionally comprehensive documentation including the original Operation, Maintenance and Service handbook in the original Jaguar pouch; an original manufacturer's brochure for the 4.2-litre E-Type; an affidavit signed by Barbara Manemann, testifying to its originality; and the aforementioned Heritage Certificate.

Following a thorough examination, renowned German experts FSP, with Sebastian Hoffmann as Classic Car Consultant, gave this car a 'AAA' rating (the highest possible), confirming it as highly original. The car has also a FIVA passport (issued 5th April 2016) categorising it as 'A/2' (A = 100% original; 2 = authentic). Finally, the car was also evaluated by the respected Belgian Classic Car expert Gert Beets. Mr Beets concluded: "General condition can be described as good but the fact that this is a one owner car in un-restored and unmolested condition makes this a very collectable item. Market value for such original un-restored cars has risen significantly over the last years".

Benefiting from a new battery, starter motor, fuel pump, clutch cylinder, ignition coil, and plug leads, this beautiful E-Type roadster is ready to use and said to drive well. It is rare indeed to find any E-Type is such original and unmolested condition.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
