Car is broken in two half - the car is known to be in Germany since the early 90s but seems to be never have been restored.

Bulkhead original with body number - frame shows also correct car number.
Had brackets for the external locks with the car but also the internal locking mechanism. Bonnet was missing.

Question is if both was installed or if it originally only came outside lockable or it had a kind of both.

Engine, Gearbox, Carbs believe to be not original.

Your car came original with "Outside Bonnet Locks"! But on some of the "later" cars
(87525x) to( 875385) had a later " Bulkhead to sill closing panel" (BD28253) this
panel was also made for the later "internial locking bonnet"!!! (Have a good look at
#875273, there You can see it). Just remember that there was some changes from
#875001 to 875385.
Good luck in Your restoring, You know that You can order a "JDHT Certificate" this
can help You a little.

The car has an interesting steering wheel, which is believed to be the originial one - at least it came in a plastic bag fully corroded and the wood in aweful condition hanging apart the alloy. It was restored using as much original wood as possible - caps were filled with new bits.

The outer size is the correct size but the inner ring is wider making the steering wheel ring thinner than usual 3.8 litre wheels. It is definitely not a 4.2 one but has almost the size and the fragile haptics of 4.2 ones. Nevertheless the profile is round and has not this indentation as 4.2 have. I will put photos in as soon as I have some.

Additionally the car came with the broader windscreen chrome, NoS Buttler licence plate lights, the correct carburetor linkeage, almost the correct jack (the type is correct but the it might have been from another Jaguar as the last bit is different - has an angle) etc.

Original colour is gunmetal grey and red

Do you have any documents for this "car"? Are you interested to sell?

listed on e-bay: (2011-01-13)

cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll

apparently body broken into two, stored are parts, seller's description:

Really rare opportunity: Jaguar E-Type Outside Bonnet Latch Roadster - 875268 (one of the nicest original colour scheme: outside: opalescent gunmetal grey; interieur: red) - totally dismantled in need of complete restauration for enthusiasts or professional restorer. New oldtimer opportunity forces quick sale - therefore reduced price! Normally I would have asked for 5.000,- more. This year it is the 50th anniversary of E-Types. An E-Type out of the first 500 (outside bonnet latch cars) is very hard to get (cars for restauration are almost not existing anymore) and an outside bonnet latch roadster is one of the most valuable cars within the E-Type range. Perfectly restored cars can exceed 100.000,-

And the restauration effort is not so much more as with any other corroded restauration project. In both cases replacement of floor inner and outer sill (rocker panels), trunk floor, back wings, etc. needs to happen on a bench.

New sheet metal parts worth more than 2.500,- Papers for the car are alone worth 8.000,-. A proper restorable engine costs alone 2.000,- , carbs. incl. manifold approx 1.000,-. Later bonnet with two mid sections comes with the car.

Car comes with rare parts like early window chrome - I am watching Ebay since almost 10 years and have not yet seen one for sale before. In addition early boot hinges (the double style typ), etc.

Body broken in two half and back tortured by a fork lifter. Bulkhead nevertheless in quite good condition. All sheets of bulkhead are there and only have surface corrosion if at all. No surprises. Moreover body number still original on bulkhead.
The frame rails and inside wings from the back also good and reusable. The front side frames are really good, no outside corrosion, even nothing below the battery (strange as frames believed to be original) or at looking at them not found any dents. Also org. pictureframe - need some welding.

Title states first registration in 1963 - this is incorrect! Car was produced, delivered and must also be firstly registered in 1961. This happened more often in the US - I know another 1961 car with supposedly first registration in 1963. Old heritage certificate tells exact date of manufacturing which was the 21st July 1961

Unfortunately non matching number car. But original E-Type engine R-84xx-9 (very good and reusable as non or only very little corrossion at the water flows in the cylinder head) and Moss Gearbox comes with the car (have not yet any fotos). Rear axle believed to be original. Early doors - imho rescueable and worth it. Car 98% complete. Suspension, steering, prop shaft, later replacement bonnet (complete), rear axle, starter, solenoid, generator, etc. are there, good original bumbers all around, very rare windscreen chrome, very rare trunk lid hinges (the double ones - according to original guide the fewest produced ones), many new body panels:
- New rear wings
- NOS trunk lid
- Many other panels at rear, etc.

Missing: seats and seat runners, front light glases, indicator and backlights (might be there but not reusable) and might be the one or other part.

Car is located close to Frankfurt am Main in the middle of Germany.

Title and custom declaration for Germany (do not know if also for complete Europe) as well as Heritage documents comes with the car.

Deposit of 20% due after 5 days after purchase by wire transfer (you will receive BIC and IBAN numbers). Full payment due within 3 weeks after auction end. Collection later possible - depending on agreement! I have offered the car also at other places and deserves the right to end the auction upfront. However, if you win the auction, the car is of course yours.

Enquire for more information on the car and for a whole bunch of photos! Honest sale - you see what you get and can identify the good and bad things. AND again, the most important part, the bulkhead is in good condition.

This is not a rustfree restauration basis with bad suprises afterwards!

What's even more UNBELIEVABLE is that this car sold in a few hours for £14.000 GBP, January 13th 2011. Wow.

Vehicle offered at suchen.mobile.de/fahrzeuge/showDetails.html for 15.000 EUR

Seller´s description:

UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY: Very reduced, as faster sales are targeted: sheet metal parts worth approx. 4000.00, papers 10000.00. The rest is free! E-Type pre-production roadster - original opalescent gunmetal gray, inside red. American Title & Customs Certificate available. According to the title, the car was first registered in 1963 - but that's a mistake! According to the Heritage certificate, the car was "manufactured" on 07/21/1961. This car is from the pre-series of the first 500 cars with outer hood locks, welded hood slots, disc chrome only in the first approx. 350 - rare as hen's teeth E-Type 3.8 engine R84xx-9, Moss gearbox & original rear axle. No matching numbers - otherwise it would be 5,000 euros more expensive. Many new sheet metal parts already purchased, such as both rear fenders, NOS trunk lid, etc. Car is completely dismantled & broken through - important bulkhead but very good. Not much more complex than more expensive restoration bases. In state 1 worth well over 100k
