I picked this car up September 2015 in Illinois. The previous owner, Mr. Jack Eugene Sallee, had passed away 25 years ago. It had been sitting in dry storage all these years. The car was stripped of it's paint and in primer; other than that was all original and a fairly sold car with all parts in place including the original interior, and the engine turned over and sounded great. Mr. Sallee, from what I learned from his family, had owned many exciting Jaguars including a C-type; he raced although this car was not used for racing. A full restoration on the car has been started and I expect to have it done mid 2016. I've restored several other E-types in my life including a 61 flat floor roadster and a 70 E-type roadster which were both restored to very high level concours cars. Hopefully we'll have photos to post of the completed restoration in 2016

We didn't get around to starting the restoration on the car until 2017; we completed it late 2019/early 2020. Our goal was to have it completed for the Concours at the 2020 July Vintage Race weekend in Elkhart Wisconsin (Road America) but due to COVID 19 we didn't go even though the car was ready to be presented. It would have been our 33rd year in a row for this event; we were very disappointed to miss it. We'll be ready next year 2021 assuming COVID 19 is under control.

We were lucky, once we stripped the car down to bare metal (exterior, inside, underside, everything) we found the body to be original and very solid and there were no signs that the car had ever been in an accident. We also found no cracks in the engine head or block, and we weren't missing any parts but the headlight glass and the air cleaner housing. The interior, which was also complete was still all original including the interior materials (seats, carpeting, etc.) The car had been stored in a dry and clean environment by the original owner's daughter which resulted in our ability to do a successful restoration and restore it with its original components. It's of course a numbers matching car.

As seen by the restoration, like my 61 flat floor completed a few years prior to this one (VIN # 875978), we didn't spare any money or time in doing the best restoration money can buy. My 61, if you check it out on XKEdata.com, was second to none; a VERY HIGH concours restoration. This car is just as nice.

On this car we kept everything stock except for the addition of the AC due to the heat that one can experience in a FHC on a warm day; we modified the radio console by removing the ash tray to fit the AC. We also did a few improvements / modifications to improve performance and reliability but nothing that's easily visible and that can't be changed back if one desired ------ DynaMat on the interior under the carpeting, oil filter adapter kit, CoolCat cooling fan, rear rope / engine modification to eliminate oil leaks, etc. As for color, we stuck with a color combination offered in 62/63; Black / Biscuit.

If anyone has any questions on this car feel free to contact me; Gene Berghoff , Minnesota. My other Jaguars can be seen on my personal website: seepictures.wixsite.com/genesgarage. My collection includes both "Preservation" cars (all original including paint), and cars like this that are high level concours restorations.

Correction on the information I put in above. I stated that the car had been stored by "the original owner's daughter". Mr. Jack Eugene Sallee, who owned the car before me and who's daughter stored the car after Jack passed away, was not the "original" owner. I'm guessing, but don't know for sure,Jack may have been the second owner. The original owner, according to the Hert Cert, was R.W. Thornburgh.

Also I was not able to figure out how to post photos but if you contact me, or go to my personal website listed above, you'll find photos of this car prior to, during and after the restoration was completed.

I own two 63 E-types, one is a OTS (all original including paint), and this FHC which we've restored to a high level concours car. I also own a 74 OTS, and a 54 XK120 SE--- also concours condition. The early Jaguar Sports Cars are truly wonderful and exciting cars.
