Ebay item 6/6/09
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jaguar-E-Type-1965-Jaguar-e-type-in-Excellent-Condition_ ...
Opening bid $25,000 reserve not met, no bids yet 5 days left in auction. Buy it now price $60,000.

Sellers description:
This 1965 Jaguar e-type convertible in in excellent condition both mechanically and cosmetically. It is a Series I with covered headlights, and considered the most collectable of the e-types - the first year of the larger 4.2 liter engine (six cylinder), synchromesh transmission, and better/more comfortable seats. All numbers match. While not concourse, the car is in outstanding condition and is highly reliable. I purchased the car in 2001 in VG+ original condition with 66,000 miles and had it thoroughly gone over by Automotive Restorations Inc., a high-end restorer of concourse-quality collector cars in Stratford CT. All the mechanicals were attended to, and either properly serviced and brought to spec or replaced. New components include heavy duty clutch and brakes, a stainless steel exhaust system, new electronic fuel pump, plus all necessary steering and suspension parts. The original radiator was replaced with a larger aluminum radiator and heavy-duty fan to keep the car running coolly. An electronic ignition system was installed and this has meant complete reliability. Cosmetically, the car was taken down to bare metal and repainted in the original Opalescent Maroon. The chrome is excellent everywhere. The interior is excellent, with leather seats in VG+ condition (uncracked and supple), new carpets and seat belts, and the original steering wheel restored with new wood. A high-end Alpine stereo was added, with a 12 CD changer in the boot. The top is excellent and everything works as it should (except the clock). The chrome wire wheels are in excellent shape, and the correct tires have most of their life left (there is a new spare on a wire wheel as well). The car handles very well with exceptional driving manners and tight steering. It needs nothing. On the negatives, this car does leak a very small amount of oil. They all do. Just requires keeping an eye on it. Also, there are one or two very minor/pinpoint blemishes in the finish that are barely noticeable. The car has been lightly driven and currently has 73,000 miles. It has always been properly stored in the off season and never driven in rain or inclement weather. Always scrupulously maintained in Boston by the experts at Samuel's Jaguar, the car has just been serviced and tuned and given a fresh inspection sticker. It is completely ready and roadworthy for an enjoyable driving season.

This car was a complete frame-off restoration with very low miles since restored. It runs, drives, and feels like a brand new Jaquar in 1965. The motor runs strong and is an absolute blast to drive with the 4-speed manual transmission. This was the first year for the 12v alternator and negative ground electrical system. All electronics on the car work as intended, the original radio works like new and so do all the gauges. The interior is perfectly restored and feels very original.

The body overall is in excellent condition. TheOpalescent Maroon paint is a beautiful color and shines nice. It should be known thisis an older paint job and does show some minor imperfections. The black convertible top looks to be in perfect condition and fits nicely. Overall this Jaguar is a beautifully restored automobile that is 100% ready to go and needs nothing.

Car now offered at:

https://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/dealer/jaguar/xke/2354007.html#&gid=1&a ...

Seller's description:

Location: Englewood, Colorado, 80110

Transmission: Manual

Condition: Excellent

Exterior: Opalescent Maroon

Interior: Black

Built in April of 1965, this car is accompanied by a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate that assures the engine, cylinder head and chassis numbers are all matching. The beautiful (but rarely seen) Opalescent Maroon color is also original to the car as was the black interior. 1E10953 has only had four owners since new, and we have extensive files of records and receipts documenting the exceptional level of care it has benefitted from. About ten years ago it was given a ground-up restoration that included a professional complete strip and refinishing (no evidence of rust or damage was found) and overhauls of the engine, transmission and differential.

Of course, during reassembly the chrome was replaced, plus all the cooling, electrical and hydraulic systems were restored as well. Instruments were rebuilt (the clock even works!!), weather seals replaced and five new Dunlop chrome wire wheels & period-correct tires were installed. More recently, the last owner had the interior restored with new black leather, carpets and convertible top. The car retains its original Blaupunkt AM-FM radio and no additional speakers or other add-ons have been installed.

Unfortunately, prolonged storage and little use led a thankful of contaminated fuel to ruin the fuel tank, clog the carburetors and caused the valves to stick in their guides. This past August, over $8000 was spent to remove the head, replace all valves & guides, rebuild the carburetors, install a new fuel tank and all lines. The coolant hoses were replaced (with new Cheney clamps) and the exhaust manifold was beautifully porcelain coated. The interior, engine area & chassis are all show-worthy and the paint retains the glow and depth of the high-quality refinish it had received. There are a few minor imperfections that have developed in the last decade, but are hardly noticeable. Included is a complete set of original owner's books in their pouch and the jack and original tool kit in their proper bags. As is nearly always the case, you could not raise an average car to the level of this one for anything close to the price of $146,500.
