Car to be at auction 8/05
www.bonhams.com/cgi-bin/public.sh/pubweb/publicSite.r
Vin on this car J661E11275, a California VIN.

Auction description:
Lot No: 1024•
1966 Jaguar XKE OTS
Chassis no. J661#E11275
The E-Type on offer was built in 1966, so it features the more desirable 4.2 engine and all-synchro gearbox. It is also finished in the most popular color scheme for an E-Type roadster—Signal Red with black leather. Completely restored in approximately 1995 by British & European Sales and Service, it was resprayed, retrimmed, given all new chrome and subject to a complete mechanical rebuild which extended to engine, transmission, rear end, front and rear suspension and brakes. It rolls on wire wheels fitted with Michelin redline tires and comes complete with the original tool kit and handbook.

In the hands of the current owner since 1978, after restoration, the car was displayed at the Hillsborough Concours in 1996 and the Palo Alto Concours in 2005. The odometer reading of 95,139 miles is said to be original and the car is sold with California title and current registration.

It’s beautiful, it’s fast and it’s red. It’s also an iconic car that defined a generation.

Estimate: $65,000 to 75,000

Car was at auction in Paris, France, 2/06

Auction description:
Auction Lot: JAGUAR TYPE E
Automobiles de Collection, Christies (11th February 2006)
Year: 1965 Châssis No. J661E11275
Red with black leather interior. Left hand drive.

Sold new in 1966, little more is known of the history of this car before it came into the ownership of its previous keeper in 1978. In 1995, after many years of happy motoring, it was decided that it should be fully restored, and as such was resprayed and retrimmed, all the chrome was renewed and the mechanicals given a thorough overhaul: engine, transmission, suspension and brakes were all rebuilt. Since then it has been shown at a number of concours events, including the Hillsborough Concours in 2000 and the Palo Alto Concours in 2005.

The car returns to Europe for the sale, and is offered with taxes paid.

The condition of this Jaguar E-Type is as one would expect of a concours contender. It has been meticulously looked after by both previous and present owners, and the vendor states that it runs and drives perfectly.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
