Sellers description:
1966 E-Type Convertible that I have owned since 1988 (22 years) When I bought the car, I had a heated garage and completely rebuilt the rear end assemble with all new everything. I also rebuilt the brake calipers and drove the car regularly for two years. I then moved to another house with a small one car garage. I was planning to build a new, heated garage, but decided against giving up our beautiful back yard. The one car garage was designated to become a bedroom so I then moved the car to my father's large garage/barn near Fredericksburg, VA. That's where the car is currently.

Body work
When I bought the car, it had a very straight body with zero rust. The floorboards and rocker panels are original and rust free. 15 years ago, I had the car painted red and was preparing to complete the restoration but alas, the years past too quickly and the car sat in dad's garage. 2 years ago, I decided to restore the car as original to Old English White. The paint job is excellent and is ready for a light water sand and buffing. The only issue with the paint job is the overspray on the rebuilt rear and some of the engine components. errrrrg! The doors, bonnet, and boot all open with plenty of clearance for the paint and are as flush as you might hope. Inside the boot, bonnet, and doors were all cut in and are excellent. I intended to paint the frame once the engine was removed.

Drive Train
Currently, the clutch has frozen and I planed to pull the engine which was rebuilt in 1987 before I bought it (I have receipts) replace the clutch and go through the engine. While it did run well before I put it in storage, it seemed to burn a little oil (not bad, but I am particular). The transmission works well with no syncro issues. All of the parts missing from the pictures such as exhaust manifolds, mufflers and tail pipes, air cleaner and bonnet interface, heater core and fan assembly are in good shape and are with the car. The original valve covers were replace by the previous owner in 1987 who was told that the finned covers would help the car run cooler. Problem was that he had added an electric supplemental fan that was spinning backwards - one fan pushing and one fan pulling. The radiator pictured is a "super cooler" that I purchased 20 years ago. It's in perfect shape. The original is still in the car.

Also included is a rebuild kit for the front suspension.

Interior
The seats are serviciable but not great. The carpets are either missing or in bad shape and will need to be replaced. The driver's side door panel is a little rough but the passenger side is in good shape. The dash and guages are in great shape. The plastic switch bezel has a piece broken off the right hand side. The windshield is in good shape with no cracks. Essentially, it will need an entire new interior. I would probably be a good idea to refinish the floorboard prior to installing the carpet to prevent any future rust.

Most of the rubber components such as doors, boot, and chrome parts are here. Although not in great shape.

The tires are pretty much junk, but they will hold air. There are 6 knock-off wheels. One is bent (currently on the left rear because the tire still holds air) While the spoke wheels are serviceable, the chrome is not show quality.

The convertible top was in bad shape and I removed it in anticipation of rebuilding the top frame and getting it out of the way for the paint job. The parts are all there, however, the wood header frame has some damage and will probably need to be replaced. The window mechanisms are both working, but not as smoothly as I would like - an adjustment and lubrication issue.

All of the major body chrome has been sent to Advanced Plating in Nashville, TN. This includes: 4 Bumpers w/guards, head light rings, front and rear turn signals, door handles, windshield posts, door tops, reverse light and bezel, tag light bezels, tag surround, side view mirror, The chrome work is show quality. The pictures include all the parts that I have received back to date. The bumpers are still at the chrome shop and won't be ready for about 5 weeks. The winning bidder can confirm that the parts are at Advanced plating and paid for. They can be shipped directly to the new owner. The chrome work was $6,000.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
