The Series 1 XKE

This car truly is a fresh discovery, literally unearthed from 40 years storage days before we cataloged it. Simply extracted and untouched, close examination reveals it to be an amazingly well preserved machine showing only 24,033 miles!

The interior condition fully supports the mileage as the original black leather is well preserved. The dash shows no cracking and even the original radio is still present. Documentation with the car additionally supports the low millage.

Under the hood is untouched and the original motor and cylinder head underneath are still present--no changes or modifications have been made. The exterior is straight and quite free of the notorious corrosion issues. The only noticeable blemishes are in the area around the battery, usually caused by acid corrosion. The trunk and interior floor pans are free of any corrosion. The top has received a tear so will need renewing.

In general it is an amazing find: a super desirable Series 1 E-Type roadster that has been stored in a storage lock-up since 1976. The car was put away with only 24,000 miles and has not seen the light of day till now. It looks the perfect candidate for sympathetic mechanical recommissioning and careful preserving of as much of the cosmetics as possible.

This 1967 Jaguar XKE is a Series I roadster that was acquired by the seller in 2014, reportedly following several decades of storage under previous ownership. A subsequent restoration completed in 2016 included refurbishment of the body in Carmen Red on a rotisserie, retrimming of the interior in black upholstery, and overhauls of the 4.2L twin-cam inline-six, four-speed manual gearbox, differential, four-wheel disc brakes, and additional mechanical components. The car features 15″ knock-off wire wheels, a Bell stainless-steel exhaust system, and a replacement black soft top. This XKE is offered with manufacturer’s literature, a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate, historical ownership paperwork, tools, restoration photos, spare parts, and a New York registration document in the seller’s name.

The car was mounted on a rotisserie, media blasted, and underwent sheet metal repairs as well as structural reinforcements to the cowl and rockers according to the seller. The body was refinished in its factory Carmen Red using base and clear coats, and the windshield was replaced along with the black convertible top and frame. Photos and service records from the restoration are included and show details including markings on the headlight covers, hood assembly screws with oval washers, and spot welds on the trunk floors.

Chrome 15″ wire wheels are mounted with knock-offs and wear 185-width Dunlop SP Sport radial tires. The car is equipped with four-wheel disc brakes with the rears mounted inboard, and features a fully independent suspension. Brake and suspension components were refinished in black, while the control arms and various fasteners were zinc-plated. The seller notes that the brake master cylinder retains a plastic number tag.

The cockpit features replacement black leather upholstery on the rebuilt seats, the dashboard, the center console, and a replacement armrest that was custom-fabricated during a 100-hour interior refurbishment in April 2016. An upholstered plate covers the housing for the removed radio, which is pictured below and will accompany the car along with a set of lap belts and other uninstalled equipment.

A wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with an inset clock. Auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage are housed in the center stack above a row of toggle switches. The seller states that the instruments were refurbished during the restoration. The five-digit odometer shows 24k miles, of which just two have reportedly been driven under current ownership.

The 4.2L twin-cam inline-six was overhauled and balanced according to the seller, with replacement components said to include Ross Racing forged pistons, Total Seal piston rings, and Manley Performance stainless-steel valves. Aluminum tags are present on the banjo fittings for the polished triple SU carburetors, which were rebuilt along with the radiator and cooling fan. Cloth-wrapped silicone cooling hoses are fastened with Cheney clamps.

Power is supplied to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual gearbox that was rebuilt in February 2015 along with the limited-slip differential and axles. A Bell stainless-steel exhaust system was also fitted. Additional replacement components are listed in the service records.

The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate lists dates of manufacture and dispatch, factory colors, and identification numbers for the chassis, body, engine, and gearbox. Each is shown in the gallery and etched onto a reproduction chassis tag.

Restoration records are included in the sale along with several spare parts, historical ownership documentation, a refurbished tool kit, and tire changing equipment.
