This 1967 Jaguar XKE Series I roadster was purchased by the current owner in 1996 within a few years after it had been repainted in Opalescent Silver Gray and its 4.2-liter inline-six was rebuilt. The interior was reupholstered in maroon leather in 2013. Equipment includes a four-speed manual transmission, a limited-slip differential, triple SU carburetors, enclosed headlights, a maroon soft top and matching tonneau cover, 15″ wire wheels, power-assisted disc brakes, and a cassette stereo. This XKE is now offered in Texas by the seller on behalf of the owner with a clean Louisiana title in the owner’s name.
Series I E-Types were equipped with covered headlights and taillights located above the chrome rear bumpers. This example received a replacement frame from an earlier E-Type under previous ownership, and the body was repainted in Opalescent Silver Gray in 1993, according to the seller. Features include a maroon soft top, a maroon tonneau cover, a louvered clamshell hood, triple windshield wipers, bright trim, wraparound chrome bumpers, and dual exhaust outlets.
Chrome-finished 15″ wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-offs and are mounted with Coker Classic tires measuring 185R15. Braking is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard rear rotors.
The interior was reupholstered in maroon leather in 2013, the seller tells us. Appointments include black dash trim, an AM/FM/cassette stereo, a heater, red lap belts, and maroon carpeting.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a Smiths 160-mph speedometer and 6k-rpm tachometer, while auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage are positioned at the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 12k miles, approximately 1,500 of which were added under current ownership.
Removed and rebuilt in 1994, the 4.2-liter inline-six features triple SU carburetors and was factory rated at 265 horsepower and 283 lb-ft of torque.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a full-synchromesh four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential.
The chassis number 1E13371 stamped into the identification plate shown above is cited as the VIN on the the Louisiana title. The sequence 877518 is stamped into the frame and is consistent with a left-hand-drive 1962 XKE convertible.
