Private Party or Dealer: Private Party

This 1967 Jaguar XKE roadster was purchased new at Jaguar Chicago by a friend of the seller, who purchased it in 1968. The car was refinished in blue with a black convertible top over a black interior during current ownership, and power is provided by a 4.2-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a Honduran Mahogany dash face, a JVC cassette stereo, fender-mounted mirrors, 15″ knock-off wire wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, and triple SU carburetors. This Series 1 XKE roadster is now offered with literature, a luggage rack, and a clean Illinois title in the seller’s name.

Previously silver, the body was refinished in blue in the early 1980s, and features include a black folding soft top, split chrome bumpers, front fender-mounted mirrors, and glass headlight covers. A stainless steel luggage rack is shown installed on the deck lid in the gallery and will accompany the car. The seller notes that the removable top boot is worn, that the front turn-signal lenses are cracked, and that the passenger door window is difficult to roll up. Paint chips are visible on the front of the hood and on the rear license plate panel, and a crack resulting from a burst rear tire can be seen behind the left-rear wheel. Corrosion is noted on the bottom of the driver’s door and on the lower rocker panels, and the seller states that the trunk lid is difficult to open. The windshield washer system is said to require work, and the hood latch is in need of adjustment.

The knock-off wire wheels are wrapped in Goodyear Invicta GL tires, which are stated by the seller to be over 15 years old. Braking is handled by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors, and the car rides on four-wheel independent suspension with torsion bars up front and coil springs at the rear. The seller states that the brake master cylinder and brake lines have been replaced, and the rear brake calipers were rebuilt. The shocks are in need of replacement.

The cabin is trimmed in black leather with matching carpets and door panels. The seller states that the seats were reupholstered approximately 15 years ago, and the dash face was replaced with custom Honduran Mahogany panels. A JVC AM/FM/cassette player is fitted, and the heater motor does not work.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 160-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset clock. Auxiliary gauges for water temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage are mounted in the center of the dash. The five-digit odometer shows 20k miles, nearly all of which were added by the seller since 1968. True mileage is unknown. The choke lever is said to need adjustment.

The 4.2-liter DOHC inline-six is equipped with triple SU carburetors and was factory rated at 265 horsepower and 283 lb-ft of torque. An electric fan with a dash-mounted switch is fitted. Service performed in 2019 reportedly included an oil change and chassis lubrication.

Cylinder head stamping 7E11558-9 matches the engine number noted on the chassis data tag. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission, and the seller states that the rear mufflers and tail pipes have been replaced.
