This 1967 Jaguar XKE is a Series I roadster that was completed on January 10, 1967, and was reportedly placed in storage in 1975. It is said to have remained there until it was acquired by the seller in 2020 and subsequently refurbished. The car is finished in Opalescent Dark Blue over beige leather, and power comes from a numbers-matching 4.2L inline-six paired with a four-speed manual gearbox and a 3.07:1 rear axle. Features include a dark blue soft top, glass headlight covers, 15″ wire wheels, and four-wheel disc brakes. This XKE is now offered with factory books, tools, a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, refurbishment photos, and a clean Arizona title in the seller’s name.

Delivered from the factory in Opalescent Dark Green, the car is said to have been stripped before a 2020 repaint in Opalescent Dark Blue. A replacement windshield, door glass, and glass headlight covers were reportedly fitted, and brightwork was triple chrome plated. Features include hood louvers, split front and rear bumpers, and twin exhaust outlets.

The replacement dark blue soft top was fitted in 2020 and can be seen up close in the gallery. The 15″ wire wheels are mounted with 205/70 Bridgestone Ecopia EP422 tires. A matching spare wheel with a Vredestein Sprint Classic tire is mounted under the trunk floor. The car rides on four-wheel independent suspension with torsion bars up front and coil springs at the rear. New rear suspension bushings and seals were reportedly installed during the refurbishment, and the four-wheel disc brake system was also rebuilt.

The cabin features seats that were retrimmed in replacement beige leather during the 2020 refurbishment, along with matching door panels and carpets. Equipment includes a center console with an armrest, a sliding rear-view mirror, a glove compartment, and lap belts.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 160-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset clock. Gauges for amperage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level are located in the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows under 41k miles. Total mileage is unknown.

The 4.2L twin-cam inline-six is equipped with triple SU side-draft carburetors and was factory rated at 265 horsepower and 283 lb-ft of torque. The engine was rebuilt during the refurbishment, and new pistons were reportedly installed along with valves and springs, a reground crankshaft, resized connecting rods, and a replacement wiring harness and electrical components.

Cylinder head stamping number 7E11882-9 is shown above and matches the number listed on the chassis plate and the Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual gearbox and a rear end with a 3.07:1 final drive. The gearbox is said to have been rebuilt with a new layshaft, bearings, synchros, and seals in 2020, and a new clutch was also installed.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate lists factory colors and identification numbers as well as a manufacture date of January 10, 1967.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
