Car was at auction 2/11
www.wwgauctions.com/auctions/details.cfm

Auction description:
AUCTION DATE: Friday, Feb 18, 2011
LOT NUMBER: 39
CHASSIS NO: 1E15633
Completely Unrestored Original and Only 9,632 Original Miles from New

Engine Number 7E13495-9
Body Number 4E7487

Inline six-cylinder, cast iron block, dual overhead camshafts, alloy cylinder head and crankcase, 4235 cc, 9:1 compression ratio, 265bhp @ 5400 rpm, Triple SU type HD8 carburetors, manual choke, four-speed synchromesh manual shift, Servo assisted Dunlop four-wheel discs, independent front and rear suspension, chrome wire wheels, Dunlop 6.40 X 15" RS5 thin white wall tires, Radio Delete plate

This wonderful survivor came out of nearly 37 years of dry storage in the most remarkable original condition. Fortunately, it was covered with a loose-fitting car cover which had taken the brunt of the dirt and dust accumulation and virtually disintegrated around the car. Owned by Dr. John Sisson from Fort Pierce, Florida, for all but the first year of its life, it had been put away by him in 1969, when the odometer reading was 9,632 miles. It has since been part of one noted collection and exercised sparingly in order to maintain its incredibly low mileage.

Only very minor refurbishing has been required and to do the car justice and retain the maximum originality, it has only received a very minor and sympathetic cosmetic clean and detail. In every other respect it remains original. It appears to have never been driven in rain. The opalescent maroon paintwork is the factory original nitro-cellulose lacquer and has only minor imperfections and a fine set of stone chips showing the correct factory primer undercoat. The interior is totally original and in superb condition and shows only a slight patina which matches the driven miles. The Everflex soft top looked like it had never been up and retains the rare factory fitted lead shot sleeve to prevent vibration of the top panel at speed. The chrome bumpers and trim are unmarked and in near perfect condition.

The engine required several oil changes and a soaking in WD40 and Mystery oil before it broke free. The complete fuel system was cleaned from tank to carburetors in order to remove residual gum left by the evaporated gas. The engine started on the third turn and has perfect compression on all cylinders. The exhaust system is original and amazingly is not holed anywhere. The chrome wire wheels and Dunlop RS5 tires are original and in excellent condition. The trunk matting is perfect and a full original tool kit including the factory supplied touch-up paint pot is intact. There are factory chalk marks on the underside of the right front of the hood. The car comes with its owner's manual and dealer documents in the original pouch and various inspection data and letters that confirm the originality of the car.

This roadster, without a shadow of doubt, has to be considered one of the finest of its kind. A remarkable Jaguar and a superb Preservation Class show car that will enhance any serious collection.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
