Ebay item 7/2/09

Opening bid $35,000 reserve not met, no bids yet 9 days left in auction.

Sellers description:
1968 Jaguar XKE 4.2 Roadster, Series 1.5

This is a beautiful, extremely well-running E-type; a truly elegant driver for those so inclined. Donovan Motorcar Service has had this car under its aegis for more than 20 years and we thus know it inside and out.

The body is close to perfect, with no corrosion issues at all. In its past it had been painted in its original Old English white, wonderfully complimenting its original deep red leather interior. The floor carpeting has been replaced. The car also comes with the optional factory black fiberglass hardtop, plus a quality aftermarket tonneau cover (which Jag did not offer at the time). Needless to say, the convertible roof is in very good condition.

The 4.2-litre straight six is original, and it’s been upgraded with stainless steel headers, a performance exhaust system, and an electronic ignition. It has the Stromberg carbs, which in this car work very well. It has, of course, the all-synchro four-speed gearbox.

The (five) wheels are special: They are 7-inch Dayton center-laced chrome steel wires, with the Series 1 knock-offs. The car wears Pirelli P4000 SuperTourings, size 205/70-15. For the record, the car has Spax front dampers, too.

For those of you considering showing the car, this E-type is numbers-matching: Car no.: 1E16276; Body no.: 4E 8255; Engine no.: 7E14924-9; and Gearbox no.: EE 1442.

To sum up... This XKE is pretty, sexy, fast, clean, reliable – and a joy to drive. Jag aficionados love it, while those new to the marque quickly come to understand the appeal of an E-type.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
