This 1968 Jaguar XKE Series 1.5 roadster was purchased new by the seller’s grandfather from Arnold Oldsmobile of Yonkers, New York, and underwent a refurbishment that began in 2022. Work included a repaint in its factory shade of Opalescent Silver Blue and reupholstering the interior as well as refreshing the brakes, suspension, and 4.2-liter inline-six. A replacement black soft top was also installed, and additional equipment includes a four-speed manual transmission, a Moto-Lita steering wheel, a stainless-steel exhaust system, and 15″ knock-off wire wheels. This XKE is now offered with a window sticker, purchase documents, a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, owner’s manuals, service records, spare parts, a car cover, and a California title in the seller’s name.
Series 1.5 XKEs featured exposed headlights shared with Series II cars, but retained Series I features such as taillights situated above the split rear bumper. This example was finished from the factory in Opalescent Silver Blue and was stripped to bare metal and repainted in 2022 by Images Auto Body of Campbell, California. Additional work included fitting a black vinyl soft top, re-chroming exterior pieces, and replacing the weather stripping, windshield, and exterior badging. Paint meter readings are presented in the gallery below.
The 15″ knock-off wire wheels were replaced in 2023 and are mounted with 185-width Universal Sport tires. The front shocks were replaced in 2022, and the braking system was refreshed, which included replacing the master cylinder, pads, and hoses. The brake booster was replaced in 2025, and the seller notes the emergency brake and brake calipers have been serviced.
The seats were fitted with replacement foam padding and re-trimmed in red leather, and the dashboard and door panels were reupholstered at that time. Additional work included replacing the carpeting, seatbelts, blower motor, and heater.
The wood-rimmed Moto-Lita steering wheel fronts a Smiths 160-mph speedometer, which was fitted with a replacement cable in 2023 and rebuilt in 2025. Additional instrumentation includes a 6k-rpm tachometer as well as gauges for voltage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level that are located in the center stack. The analog clock and instrument cluster lighting was replaced in 2022. The five-digit odometer shows 13k miles, which is not considered to be accurate. Total mileage is unknown.
The 4.2-liter inline-six features dual Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and was factory rated at 246 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque. The fuel tank was recoated and the level sending unit replaced in 2022, and an electronic fuel pump and replacement fuel filter have been installed. Additional work completed during the refresh included rebuilding the carburetors and replacing the distributor cap, spark plugs, oil pressure switch, driver-side exhaust manifold, radiator, and the camshaft and exhaust manifold gaskets. The alternator was rebuilt in 2025, and the seller notes that the radiator and hoses have also been replaced.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a full-synchromesh four-speed manual transmission. A stainless steel exhaust system was fitted in 2022, and the exhaust hangers and flanges were replaced. The clutch lines were bled and the transmission fluid flushed at that time. The clutch hydraulic cylinders, flex line, and driveline U-joints have been replaced per the seller.
The initial invoice lists initial delivery to Arnold Oldsmobile of Yonkers, New York, as well as factory options and a total price of $5,222.40. A photo of the window sticker is provided in the gallery.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificate shows the original colors and drivetrain numbers as well as the build and dispatch dates.
Additional photos taken during various stages of the refurbishment can be seen in the gallery.
The California title carries an “Exceeds Mechanical Limits” brand.
