Owner: Ken Olenyik

I have owned this vehicle since 1968 - fun car to drive and own, but it is one that you have to keep on top of - as such, did a clutch two years ago, rebuilt the carb's, and other mod's to keep it running

This 1968 Jaguar XKE is a Series 1.5 open two-seater that was acquired by the seller in 1986 and is finished in Old English White over dark blue leather. The car is also equipped with a black soft top and is powered by its original 4.2-liter XK inline-six, which is backed by a four-speed manual gearbox. Service within the last 1k miles included rebuilding and adjusting the twin carburetors, as well as installing a new brake master cylinder, brake vacuum booster, clutch, clutch master cylinder, and adjustable clutch slave cylinder. Additional work performed during the seller’s ownership included replacing the floorpans, installing new carpeting and vinyl interior trim, and fitting a stainless steel exhaust. This E-Type is now offered with a service manual, a tool kit and jack, and a clean New Jersey title in the seller’s name.

The body is finished in Old English White, and paintwork was carried out 15 years ago on one fender after it was dinged by a technician removing a wheel. According to the seller there was filler on the floorpans when he acquired the car in 1986, and new front and rear pans were installed on both sides circa 1990. An area of bubbling in the paint on the lower edge of the driver’s door and adjacent sill is shown.

15” wire wheels are secured with three-lobed knock-offs and wear 205/70 Firestone FT70c tires. The braking system utilizes disc all around, and a new brake master cylinder and brake vacuum booster were installed in 2015. A refresh of the brakes following the seller’s purchase in the 1980s included replacing all four calipers.

The cabin is trimmed in dark blue leather, and new matching carpets, hardura, and vinyl were installed in 1993, along with fresh underlying foam. The black dash features the rocker-type switches that were introduced for Series 1.5 cars, and a cassette player has been added in the console.

A wood-rimmed steering wheel with a growler logo on the hub frames a 160-mph Smiths speedometer and 6k-rpm Smiths tachometer. The five-digit odometer shows approximately 69k miles, 20k of which have been added by the seller. A new speedometer cable was installed in 2012.

The 4.2-liter DOHC inline-six features twin Stromberg carburetors that were rebuilt and adjusted about 1k miles ago during a 2012 service by Jaeger Automotive in Belmar, New Jersey. The clutch was also replaced at that time along with the throwout bearing, pilot bushing, clutch fork, and clutch fork pivot. A Series 1-style clutch slave cylinder was installed in place of the Series 2-style hydrostatic unit. A new fuel pump and clutch master cylinder were installed in 2015, and an oil change was performed in 2019.

Stamping 7E16337-9 matches the engine number recorded on the chassis plate.

Additional work performed in 2012 are on invoices. It included installing new engine and transmission mounts, cooling system hoses, exhaust system mounts, and various gaskets. The rear engine seal was replaced shortly after the seller’s acquisition in the 1980s.

A stainless steel exhaust system was added in 1990, but retained the tailpipes from the previous exhaust. Additional work at that time included replacing the U-joints in the driveshaft and half shafts, as well as cleaning and painting the rear end unit.
