Car was sold at RM auction 3/11/06
http://www.rmauctions.com/AuctionResults.cfm?SaleCode=AM06#

Auction description:
This Early 1968 model is one of the few E-Types that are today popularly known as Series I 1/2 cars as they employ the open headlight bonnets but are otherwise identical to the Series I cars retaining the very favorable 4.2 liter engine. This XKE was fully restored three years ago and is in excellent mechanical condition. The car is finished in Anthracite with a red leather interior, Fully suited for the open road the roadster also has chrome wire wheels. This example will undoubtedly reward its next owner with open air driving at its best.

Auction description:
Sale 18267 - Exceptional Motorcars and Automobilia, 12 Aug 2010 to 13 Aug 2010
Quail Lodge
Lot No: 252•
1967 Jaguar E-Type 4.2 Series 1.5 Open Two-Seater
Chassis no. 1E 17694
Engine no. 7E 16516-9
Body No. 4E 9817
In anthracite or gunmetal grey and with a red interior, this car is understood to have been the subject of a restoration in the early 2000s, which provided the previous owner with a tidy example of the model, lightly modernized in terms of choosing a modern metallic paint. The car has been in this collection for the last four years and since its odometer reads a little under 1,000 miles we anticipate that this is the sum total of road miles on this restoration, during this time it has received periodic maintenance, most recently receiving a new fuel pump. Equipped with a modern Clarion stereo, jack and facsimile manual, this is a tidy driver quality entry level E Type.

Without reserve
Estimate: $50,000 - 60,000

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
