Sellers description:

1968 S 1.5 Jaguar E Type fro sale. It is a mostly complete project that requires a complete retoration. I bought this car last summer for a restoration project. I bought it from the 3rd owner and he owned it for the past 30 yrs. I would love to continue but I must let it go due to health issues with my wife. The car has been almost entirely sandblasted and some of the rusted out panels were cut out. The floors and parts of the sills were completely rusted. Both floors have been removed but the passenger side floor is installed but only tack welded in place along with one of the passenger side sills. I have all new metal from Martin Robey for this car. (NEW floors, new inner and outer sills, new rear quarter panels and a bonner hinge repair panel) There is a small amount of rust in the quarters that can be patched and some rust in the trunk floor. I was told by a Jag specialist that the quarters should be repaired instead of replaced. the trunk floor will probably require replaced. (I do not have this part). The front and rear bulk heads are rust free and the tunnel in in good shape.. The bonnett is in VERY GOOD condition with only a small dent in the lower valance and some minor corrosion here and there. As you can see in the pics the car is completely dis assembled. The car has a numbers matching engine and transmission. The rear IRS is complete and intact. It is in very good condition. The engine spins over freely by hand and is complete with the twin carbs. I have all of the gauges, dash panels and the upper dash pad. The convertible top is in very good condition but should be replaced. The top frame is VERY NICE condition. Seats are OK but need to be re upholstered. The bumpers are very clean as well but need to be re chromed. Car comes with the original windshield and chrome trim too that is in good condition. I do not have every little piece for this car but most if it is all there. (things like the little brackets and all misc hardware). The lube / chassis plate pictured is original and in decent condition. All of the original front sub frame parts are in very nice condition and the chassis number is still on the frame. Most of the car is currently located near Reading, PA. (Monocoque, engine, trans, IRS assembly, repair panels, original wheels, subframes etc) I have some parts at my home in Centrville, MD. (front torsion bars, front brake assemblies, front hubs, seats, console, dash pieces, guages, windshield, heater box, convertible top etc).

This breathtaking Jaguar E-Type is nearly the very last Series 1 roadster ever built with VIN: 1E18090 and it was meticulously restored (full rotisserie, not just the top of the car) to the highest quality Factory Correct Concourse DElegance Judges Guide and finished in the richly elegant Dark Blue exterior, Biscuit Interior and a tan top that is ever so popular.

One of the last Series 1 Roadsters

According to the accompanying Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust production record trace certificate number 68665, this US-specification car was completed June 7, 1968 and dispatched for delivery July 9 1968 via Jaguar Cars, New York. It was originally finished in Cream with Black interior and Black top. Most notably, the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Certificate goes on to document that this car is in fact a Jaguar E-Type Series 1 4.2 Litre as well as having the Series 1 Vin number 1E18090 (the Series 2 numbering system completely changed from the Series 1 (i.e.: 1R1001). 

This Series 1 car has the larger 4.2-liter dual-overhead-cam inline six that produces about 246 horsepower with about 263 pound-feet of torque. Another highlight is that this car was delivered from Jaguar with Dual electric fans for better cooling, and other safety features. The safety upgrades include open headlights that were needed for visibility from the side in dark environments (also no condensation/fogging/rusting that are common in the older bug-eyed cars) and the rocker switches on the fascia/dash that are much safer in a frontal collision.   

Full Rotisserie Restoration

This car was completely dismantled including every nut and bolt and every part, then the original parts were restored, when reusable, to the Concours DElegance Judges Guide specifications in order to achieve a finished car that is as close to the exact same finishes and condition as the car was when it rolled of the Jaguar Factory assembly line. This means that the car has true and correct parts even down to the Cadmium finished GKN bolts and the English style wing nuts (rounded ears unlike the squared off U.S. version), and the original Cheney hose clamps. This is not just a cosmetic restoration or just a rebuilt engine project but a highly detailed, high quality restoration by a former Jaguar Restoration Shop Mechanic. It is as Factory Correct as possible.

One of the very last Series 1 E-types ever made (1 of only 2,328 issued around the world in 1968); before the Series 2 the following year. This numbers matching open headlight, late Series 1—colloquially known as a Series 1.5—Jaguar E-Type Roadster was built on June 7, 1968 and left the Browns Lane factory in Coventry just about a month later on the 9th of July. This Roadster is currently finished in Dark Blue exterior with Biscuit leather interior and a tan convertible top. It was originally imported through Jaguar Cars of New York. While the early history of this Jaguar is not known, the consignor acquired the car in 2015.

Trading hands a few times before ending up with its present owner, the car is believed to have spent approximately 30 years with one of its long-term previous owners before making its way to Arizona, where it has lived ever since. Fitted with its original, numbers matching engine, transmission and body, this Roadster was a wonderful candidate for a meticulous rotisserie restoration. After five long years of painstaking work and research, the highly detailed restoration was complete. The level of detail was uncompromised, mainly since the entire restoration was done at the hands of the consignor himself, a Jaguar Club North America certified judge. Devoid of the large taillights, heavy bumpers, and additional fittings that came to be a hallmark of later E-Types, the Series 1.5 retains all of the good looks and style only found in the Series 1.

The five-year long restoration spared no expense to ensure the car was done correctly and done to factory correct specifications. The engine was completely torn down and rebuilt to Jaguar specs, the correct finish ceramic porcelain for the exhaust manifolds, Concours correct Cheney hose clamps and silver cadmium finished GKN bolts, precise metal finishes and plating and even proper English style wing nuts. Extra attention was made to ensure the finishes of the hardware, engine components, surfaces was done to satisfy the most scrutinizing judges at concours events. Even down to the right colored red Glyptol paint found on the rear differential and period proper Dunlop 'dogbone' tires shows the level of fine detail this Roadster was given.

Accompanied by its original tools, jack, spare tire, a restoration project booklet, receipts documenting thousands of dollars for restoration parts and services and its Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate, an ear-to-ear grin is virtually guaranteed once out on the open road with the top down in this sleek Jag. Clear the bookshelves, the next caretaker is going to need much more space for all the trophies this E-Type is going to accumulate!

This 1968 Jaguar XKE is a Series 1.5 roadster that was completed on June 7, 1968, and distributed via Jaguar Cars of New York. Finished in dark blue over tan leather upholstery, the car is powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six mated to a four-speed manual transmission. Additional equipment includes a tan soft top, 15″ knock-off wire wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, dual Zenith-Stromberg carburetors, and a push-button radio. The car is said to have been refurbished in the late 2010s, and it was acquired by the selling dealer in 2023. This XKE Roadster is now offered in California with manufacturer’s literature, tools, a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate, and an Arizona title.

This example was finished from the factory in Cream and was repainted dark blue under previous ownership. Exterior details include a replacement tan soft top with a matching boot as well as a louvered forward-hinged hood, a left mirror, and triple windshield wipers. Imperfections in the finish are visible.

Chrome-finished 15″ wire wheels are secured via two-eared knock-off spinners and wear 185-width Dunlop SP Sport tires, while a matching spare is stored in the trunk. The car is equipped with a fully independent suspension and four-wheel disc brakes, with the rears mounted inboard.

The reupholstered interior features low-back bucket seats trimmed in tan leather accompanied by a color-coordinated center console, door panels, and carpets. Lap belts are provided for both occupants, and additional appointments include a sliding rear-view mirror as well as an AM/FM push-button radio linked to speakers mounted on each side of the center stack.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset clock. Auxiliary gauges are housed in the center stack above a row of rocker switches for vehicle functions. The five-digit odometer shows 50k miles, and total mileage is unknown.

The 4.2-liter inline-six is said to have been overhauled as part of the refurbishment and is equipped with dual Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and polished valve covers.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificate shows the original colors and drivetrain numbers as well as the build and dispatch dates.

Manufacturer’s literature, a knock-off hammer, and a jack are included in the sale. A reproduction chassis plate has been installed, and the removed plate will also accompany the car.

The Arizona title lists a “Not Actual Mileage” brand.
