Ebay item 3/25/05
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll
Current bid $20,100.00 (Reserve not met) , 9 bids, 6 days left in auction. 34 k miles.
Serllers description:
The current owner bought this car in 2001. The previous owner from Texas had completed a two-year restoration in 1996. Almost $20,000 was spent on the restoration at that time. Photos and receipts are included.
¨ Body and frame disassembled and repainted
¨ Engine rebuilt: new pistons, rings, bearings, cams, lifters, oil pump, etc.
¨ Gearbox rebuilt
¨ New clutch, pressure plate and T/O bearing
¨ New brake and clutch master cylinders
¨ Gas tank removed and sealed
¨ Front suspension refurbished
¨ New starter and rebuilt alternator
¨ New electronic ignition and distributor
¨ New fuel pump
This car has been maintained by our shop for the last couple of years. Work we have completed:
¨ Tune-ups
¨ Oil/filter changes
¨ New brake & clutch master cylinders
¨ New u-joints
¨ New radiator hoses
¨ New voltage regulator
¨ New thermostat and fan control switch
¨ New timing chain and tensioners
¨ New right rear upright bushings
¨ New Seat belts
¨ New Sony AM/FM/CD player
¨ New custom boot cover
During the restoration the original carburetors were replaced with three Weber 45DOCEs. These carburetors add considerably to the engine performance along with the headers and the “hotter” cams we believe were installed. There is so much power under the hood, you can hardly tromp your foot to the floor without spinning the tires. It is a real British rocketship!
The owner’s interests have changed. He now wants to start flying airplanes. The Jag has to go, so he brought it to me to sell for him.
The XKE, recognized as one of the most beautiful cars in the world, started production in 1961. The early “closed headlamp” cars were called Series I. In 1968 in order to meet US standards the headlamps had to be raised in the fenders and could no longer be covered. They also eliminated the “toggle” switches on the dash (for safety reasons!) and replaced them with rocker switches. Other than those and a few other changes these Series 1.5 cars were identical to the later Series I cars with the larger 4.2 liter engine and the more comfortable bucket seats.
SPECIFICATIONS: 4.2L, DOHC, 265 HP, Inline 6 cylinder; 92.1mm Bore X 106mm Stroke; 9.1 Compression; 4-Speed Synchromesh Gearbox; 96” Wheelbase; 175” O/A Length; 48” Height; 15” Knock-Off Wire Wheels; Servo Assisted Disc Brakes; Rack & Pinion Steering; 2,790 Lb. Dry Weight.
FEATURES: Independent Front and Rear Suspension; Dual Braking Systems; Adjustable Steering Wheel; 16” Three-Spoke Alloy & Wood Rimmed Steering Wheel; Map Reading Light; Interior Light; Two Speed Wipers; Windscreen Washers; Cigar Lighter; 160 MPH Speedometer; Clock; Wraparound Windscreen; Wraparound Bumpers w/Over-riders; Leather Seats; Adjustable Seats; Lockable Glove Compartment; Dash Grab Bar; Deep Pile Carpets.
There were very few of these Series 1.5 Roadsters manufactured making this a very rare car indeed. Original Price $5,352. Includes the original Manufacturer's Waranty Card, listing the original owner, date of delivery, and identification numbers.
Chassis #: 1E18210

The current NADA Classic, Collectible and Special Interest Car Appraisal Guide lists Average Retail Value (good overall condition) at $35,650. Freshly restored examples bring as much as $50,000. You can own this one for less, and from 10’ away you can not tell the difference. Do not wait; there are not many "driver quality" XKE Series 1.5 roadsters around.

CONDITION:
We do a complete 100 point mechanical and cosmetic inspection before listing a vehicle for sale. There are always items that do not show up in photos that need to be mentioned so the new owner has no surprises. A copy of the inspection is available by fax. We do the same thing as an independent inspection service, so save yourself the $$ when buying this vehicle.
INTERIOR: The interior is presentable, but not to show car standards. The seats show some wear, the dash top cover is loose in a few places, the carpets are showing wear and the console is worn. The driver side interior door panel is a little loose at the top.
EXTERIOR: It was repainted in what appears to be the authentic Jaguar “Dark Blue” color. From 10 feet away the car is stunning. Any closer and you see some blemishes. There is a small dent on one of the front bumper over-riders, but the rest of the chrome is in nice condition. There are some scratches on the windshield and door glass. The fender tops under the chrome strip show some buckling in a few spots. The convertible top is not new, but has no tears or rips. The rear window is a little cloudy but there is no problem with visibility.
GAUGES/INSTRUMENTS: All the gauges and instruments operate as expected. The clock does not work and heater blower makes noises. There is a new Sony CDX-R3000 AM/FM/CD installed with aftermarket speakers behind the seats.
EXTERIOR LIGHTS: All lights work, but the left turn signal does not cancel on its own.
ENGINE/DRIVETRAIN: The engine is strong with good oil pressure (50+ psi) and good compression (180 – 190 psi). The valve clearances have been checked and are all within specification. It idles a little rough, probably from the “hot cams” we expect are in it. Once warmed up it accelerates quite briskly and runs down the highway like a champ with only a slight vibration probably due to the older tires. It backfires a bit and we think it needs a different distributor with the right advance setting for the Webers. There is a little noise in the gearbox at idle, but the 4 speed synchromesh shifts fine through all the gears. The pedals are spaced nice and close making for easy double-clutch downshifts!
WHEELS/TIRES: The P205/70-15 Michelin X (S rated) tires have lots of tread, but are getting old and showing some sidewall checking. The chrome wires are shiny and in good shape.
BRAKES: The brakes are good and there is no problem bringing the car down from brisk speeds with no swerving or grabbing.
UNDERHOOD: It shows well under the hood. The three Webers look great, attesting to its raw power. It has been upgraded with an aluminum radiator so overheating is not a problem. All fluids are topped up and ready to go.
UNDERNEATH: Solid, just a little surface rust. There are a few small leaks from the front of the engine.
Overall this car is not perfect, but is a very presentable driver. It turns heads wherever it goes! The above mentioned issues can be addressed when necessary, but it can be driven as is, with only a little effort and expense on the new owner’s part.
Please be aware this car is 40 year old technology and that in those days Jaguars (and most other cars) had more problems and required more maintenance than the cars of today.
