This 1968 Jaguar XKE is a Series 1.5 roadster that was built for the US market on June 26, 1968, and it is powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. The car has been refinished in red over black upholstery, and equipment includes a black soft top, four-wheel disc brakes, and 15″ knock-off wire wheels. The car is said to have been refurbished approximately 20 years ago, and the selling dealer acquired it in the summer of 2021, reportedly from the estate of the previous owner of 20 years. Service performed in October 2021 included cleaning the carburetors, repairing the fuel sender, and replacing the brake-booster check valve and the rear pinion seals. This XKE roadster is now offered at no reserve with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, a black top boot, a car cover, spare parts, and transferable New York registration.

Finished from the factory in Willow Green, the car has been repainted red. Series 1.5 XKEs featured exposed headlights shared with Series II cars but retained Series I features such as a small front grille opening, turn signals mounted above the front bumper, and taillights situated above the split rear bumper. This car is said to have been refurbished about 20 years ago, including having its floors replaced and rust repaired prior to the repaint. A full-body paint correction was performed in October 2021.

Chrome-finished 15″ wire wheels are secured with knock-off hubs and wrapped in 185SR15 Vredestein Sprint radial tires. The braking system features four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear brakes. The brake pads and calipers are said to have been replaced under prior ownership. A jack and a full-size spare on a wire wheel are stowed in the trunk. The seller notes that the black California license plate shown in some photos was attached for display purposes only.

Bucket seats upholstered in black are accompanied by matching carpets, dashboard, and trim. Equipment includes a central armrest, rocker switches, and an Alpine CD stereo. The seller notes that the analog clock does not work.

A wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 5,500-rpm redline, while gauges monitoring voltage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level are positioned atop the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 34k miles, approximately 200 of which have been added by the selling dealer; true mileage is unknown.

The 4.2-liter inline-six is topped by a pair of Zenith-Stromberg carburetors, and it was rated at 246 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque when new. The fuel sending unit was repaired in October 2021, at which time the brake-booster check valve and the rear pinion seals were replaced, the carburetors were cleaned, and the oil was changed. The radiator and the fans were replaced under previous ownership.

Engine-block stamping 7E18212-9 shown above matches the number noted on the Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate as well as on the chassis plate viewable in the gallery below.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.

Multiple boxes of spare parts will accompany the vehicle along with a car cover and a service manual.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate lists the vehicle’s original Willow Green and Black color scheme together with the June 26, 1968 production date and serial numbers for the chassis, engine, body, and gearbox. A discrepancy is noted where the body number on the firewall tag is 4E10467, which is one digit off from the certificate’s 4E10407, and the tag on the body is damaged so that only 4E 10__7 is legible.
