I bought this car in 1982 as a good driver. I restored it the following year and drove it regularly until 2001. It is currently (October, 2011) in the very early stages of its second restoration. Considering headlight conversion and restoration of original BRG.

Now confirmed that the engine is a replacement taken from a very early 1969 S2 E-type, engine number 7R1662-9. Casting date on the block is June 20, 1968, 16 days prior to the car's build date, so period correct but for position of timing pointer. Now confirmed that the car was originally fitted with SU carburetors. While the gearbox itself is original the lid is also from an early 1969 S2 E-type, s/n KE2959, ostensibly the same car from which the replacement engine was taken. Attempting to determine the number and history of the donor car.

Confirmed by JDHT engine number 7R1669-9 and gearbox lid KE2959 came from an early 1969, E-type LHD FCH delivered to Canada in late 1968. Chassis number 1R25206. A search of Province of Ontario MoT records, which go back only to 1973, fail to identify this car, indicating it was either parted out in a prior year or was brought in from another province. Attempting to dig deeper.

Engine number in previous comment is a typo. First reported number is correct - 7R1662-9. As of this date no further information on the donor car has been found.

I own the car immediately prior to this one: 1E18310. I bought it from the second owner in 1977, or 1976. The car has been driven up to 2002 and now requires brakes and cooling fan rebuilds. It is essentially original in every way. It is fitted with the three SU carbs. It is LHD but I was told it was purchased in England and imported to Canada when new.

April 2021, this car is now seven years and 10,000+ miles post total restoration and, after 39 years of ownership, is still very much enjoyed. There have been two low speed shunts over the period, one denting the nose of the bonnet and the other damaging the front and rear fenders on the lhs, all repaired to a high standard.

As of this writing, headlights remain open per original “Series 1.5” specification, though the car features the following reversible Series 1 retrofits:

• rod mounted rearview mirror (originally windshield mounted)
• eared spinners (originally non-eared “safety” spinners)
• toggle switch centre dash (originally rockers)
• mohair soft top (originally vinyl)

In addition, the original 5” Dunlop wire wheels have been replaced with new 6” MWS wire wheels, currently shod with Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. The exhaust system is stainless steel by Falcon.

This car is best described as a very nice and solid driver. Since its restoration, it has been shown five times at the annual Bronte Park British Car Show (billed as the largest of its kind in North America) and has taken 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in the 1961-68 Jaguar E-type judging category.
