Car to be at auction 11/22
    angliacarauctions.co.uk/classic-auctions/2555-05-Nov-2022/94~4-1968-jaguar-e-type-series-i-42-roadster

    Auction description:
    1968 JAGUAR E-TYPE SERIES I 4.2 ROADSTER
    Estimate: No Reserve
    V5 Present
    Chassis number: 1E2125
One of nine cars from a private, long-term collection belonging to a retired engineer. This Series 1 ½ Jaguar E-type Roadster was registered in August 1968 and has just two former registered keepers showing on its V5C, with the vendor having had it since 1998. The odometer records 81,980 miles and the Jaguar's last MoT expired in March 2013, having been passed the previous year at 81,920 miles. So, since then, the E-type has covered very few miles. In the words of the vendor, the car has had ‘serious restoration over 45 years’ and there is a photo album which looks to date from the early 21st century showing a complete rebuild and repaint. While the car still looks very presentable, there are now areas where it could be improved again - such as the bootlid, which seems reluctant to close. The vehicle is supplied with a hard-top, and also has a stainless steel exhaust system fitted. The history folder includes the present and some previous V5Cs, along with MoT certificates from 1998 (at an indicated 16,887 miles) to 2005, 2007, 2010 and 2012. There are also copies of magazine and newspaper features on E-types, as well as a parts catalogue and some bills. There are also two cards detailing work carried out during the restoration and beyond along with associated costs, from 1998 to 2005.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
