www.coys.co.uk/auction.php

Auction description:
Lot 175 - 1968 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 4.2 Litre Fixedhead Coupe
Estimate: £65,000 - £75,000
Registration Number: LRD 739F
Chassis Number: 1E21768

This Series One 4.2 litre Fixed Head Coupe with Webasto roof, has just been extensively refurbished by UK Jaguar specialists Racing Green Cars and is now ready to be enjoyed by its next discerning owner. The engine was completely re-conditioned by two of the best engine shops in the business, the work included the fitment of high-torque cams and the balancing of reciprocating parts for extra smoothness.

The gearbox was reconditioned and a new clutch was fitted at the same time, the differential was also rebuilt. Work on the suspension meant that the bushes were renewed and new Koni shock absorbers were fitted. The braking system was completely renewed, including the fitment of uprated Coopercraft brake calipers.

The exhaust was replaced by a new stainless system and new Pirelli P4000 tyres were fitted to the chrome wire wheels. The bodywork was refinished in Rolls-Royce Velvet Green, and the biscuit interior was treated with re-trimmed leather seats and new carpets. The bumpers, over riders and door frames were all re-chromed, as were other small items as necessary.

For sale at Iconic Classic Cars near Bishops Waltham. The heritage certificate confirms this is a home market RHD coupe manufactured on 25 January 1968. First registered LRD739F on 22 February 1968, the original registration number is still on the car. The second owner was Group Captain J L Gibbert who fought in World War II and retired on 31 January 1968. The log book shows just five previous owners, which is believed to be true but cannot be verified. The history file which accompanies the car shows it was off the road from 1995 until restoration was completed in 2014.

UK Jaguar specialists Racing Green restored the car completing restoration in early 2014.This E type has benefited from many upgrades which make it a fantastic drivers car. The original engine was beyond repair and a replacement engine was sourced and completely reconditioned and rebuilt, including high torque cams and the balancing of reciprocating parts. The gearbox was reconditioned, a new clutch was fitted and the differential was rebuilt. The suspension bushes were renewed, new Koni shock absorbers fitted, Coopercraft brake callipers fitted and the braking system was completely renewed.

Chrome wire wheels with Pirelli P4000 tyres were fitted, a stainless steel exhaust system installed and the bumpers, over riders and door frames all re-chromed. The body work was finished to a high standard, painted Velvet Green with a Biscuit interior with re-trimmed leather seats and new carpets. The invoice on file for the above work totals £84,140 making this a well prepared, well sorted E Type that is in superb condition. A pleasure to drive and comfortable on long journeys. £89,950.

I bought the car in July 2016 after having it inspected by Angus Moss who confirmed it to be a sound car. He pointed out a few faults which have gradually been sorted out. The car has benefitted from being used it had only covered approximately 1000 miles since restoration in 2014, it has now covered another 3000 miles in my ownership and is running far better. The car now resides in South Yorkshire.
