Manufactured in 1968 during this transitional period, this right-hand drive ‘Series 1½’ Coupé benefits from a comprehensive bodywork restoration undertaken some years ago including a full re-spray and fitting of a Series 1 bonnet. (A photographic record of this work is available for inspection). More recently the mechanicals have been thoroughly overhauled, the engine being freshly rebuilt; new clutch, master and slave cylinders fitted; suspension overhauled front and rear with all new bushes, etc; Coopercraft front brakes and new hoses, etc fitted; rear brakes (including handbrake) overhauled with new callipers, pads, hoses and linkage; rear wheel bearings replaced; one new hub renewed; alternator and starter motor reconditioned; radiator flushed and pressure tested; and all new water hoses installed. Other new parts fitted include the fuel pump, engine mounts, ignition components and countless more minor items. Restored between 1995 and 2005 and finished in Carmen Red with nicely patinated original black leather interior, the latter featuring new Panasonic CD stereo system, this superb E-Type is offered with restoration invoices, current MoT/road fund licence and Swansea V5 document.

Car is now offered at:
www.justinbanks.com/

Sellers description:
This is a 1968 Jaguar E-Type Series One and a Half 4.2 Litre Fixed Head Coupe. Our car is finished in the classic colour scheme of Red with Black Leather Interior. We have a nice large history folder with the car and it is showing 74k Miles on the clock. The car has Tax and MOT and drives extremely well and is ready for what is left of the summer. This is one of the most desirable specification E-types S1 bonnet, for the good looks, and 4.2 engine for the better interior. Our car has some lovely upgrades which make it very easy to live with.

Interior:
Our car has a lovely Black Leather interior with a wonderful patina and is a great place to be. All the dials and instruments work as they should and there is nothing really to address. The carpets are very good and everything feels very nice. The seats would benefit from connolising but we prefer them as they are! There is also a quality CD Player fitted.

Exterior:
Our car is finished in Red and the paintwork is professionally applied albeit some time ago. The finish is wonderful with a deep lustre and we could not find any rust bubbles anywhere on the car. The chromework is all very good and complete and the glass area is all very good and also complete. There are no dings or dents and the car presents extremely well. The tyres and Wire Wheels are also good if a little dull. This car benefits from a comprehensive bodywork restoration undertaken some years ago including a full re-spray and fitting of a Series 1 bonnet. (A photographic record of this work is available for inspection).

Mechanical:
The car starts first time and idles smoothly. The car drives extremely well with no surprises and pulls strongly in every gear. There are no knocks or rattles from the suspension and the brakes work as they should. The car has been serviced regularly and is ready to go. Very recently the mechanicals have been thoroughly overhauled, the engine being freshly rebuilt; new clutch, master and slave cylinders fitted; suspension overhauled front and rear with all new bushes, etc; Coopercraft front brakes and new hoses, etc fitted; rear brakes (including handbrake) overhauled with new callipers, pads, hoses and linkage; rear wheel bearings replaced; one new hub renewed; alternator and starter motor reconditioned; radiator flushed and pressure tested; and all new water hoses installed. Other new parts fitted include the fuel pump, engine mounts, ignition components and countless more minor items.

Summary
This is a fantastic useable car in a great colour scheme ready to go immediately at a great price. You will see many other cars before finding one this good at this price. The drive is very good and with Tax and Mot it is ready to go immediately! A quick look at the history of this car will convince you how genuine it is. Be quick as prices are on the up and you will not be able to find this model, in these colours, at this price for long!

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
