Note, VIN 1E31673 with the J66 prefix indicates the car was originally sold in California as a 1966 model. California applied the prefix to British imports in the 60s, the details of who and why are not known.

This 1965 Jaguar XKE is a Series I coupe that was built in August 1965 and distributed via Jaguar Cars of New York. It is finished in light blue over dark blue leather and is powered by a numbers-matching 4.2-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes chrome wire wheels, triple SU carburetors, chrome bumpers, Smiths gauges, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and an AM/FM cassette stereo. The car was acquired by the seller in 1985, and service carried out since August 2021 consisted of replacing the battery, as well as performing an oil change and a compression test. This XKE is now offered with service records from the seller, a tool kit, a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, owner’s manuals, and a clean Illinois title in the seller’s name.

The car was finished from the factory in Opalescent Silver Blue and seller reports the body was refinished in the current shade of light blue in 1985. Equipment includes chrome bumpers with overriders, headlight covers, a driver-side mirror, and dual exhaust outlets.

Chrome 15″ knock-off wire wheels are wrapped in older Michelin tires, and the original full-size spare is located beneath the cargo floor. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes with inboard rear rotors.

The cabin features seats reupholstered in dark blue leather along with matching door panels and carpets sourced from OSJI of Muncie, Indiana. Lap belts are fitted for both occupants, and equipment includes a heater and an aftermarket push-button AM/FM cassette radio. Wear is noted on the leather surfaces. A new matching dark blue leather console kit is included in the sale.

A wood-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset analog clock, and auxiliary gauges in the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 61k miles, 6k of which were added by the seller.

The 4.2-liter inline-six features triple SU carburetors and was factory rated at 265 horsepower and 283 lb-ft of torque. The seller notes a tapping sound from the left side of the engine above the exhaust manifold. In August 2021, the battery was replaced and an oil change was carried out.

Cylinder head stamping 7E5534–9 matches the number listed on the engine block, chassis plate, and the Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. Oil seepage is present.

Owner’s manuals are included in the sale, along with service records from the seller, accessories, and a tool kit.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate lists factory colors and identification numbers as well as a completion date of August 31, 1965.

The car’s chassis number is 1E31673 and the current Illinois title lists the VIN as J661E31673.
