At Illinois Jaguar Club show July 2006

2015-08-18 16:06:19 | Anonymous writes:

Listed for sale for $89,500 at www.hemmings.com. "I am selling my 1966 Series 1 Fixed Head Coupe E Type Jaguar. It has a four speed manual, 4.2 litre engine, and triple SU carbs. I purchased this Arizona car in 1999. It underwent a two year restoration which was completed in 2002 and is driven regularly, but has covered less than 5,000 miles since then (odo shows 30,031, had 24,150 when purchased - I assume it had turned over once), it has lived its life with me under a cover on a lift in my garage. The engine, gear box, rear end and braking systems were completely rebuilt by top Midwestern Jaguar specialists (the car comes with a complete file of all bills and photographs of the restoration in progress). The body was stripped and repainted in its original Opalescent Silver Blue color, the interior was in very good shape with a nice patina so I left it alone, the vast majority of the chrome was rechromed (some door trim left along due to scarcity). Suspension bushings and mounts were replaced 1,000 miles ago. The car drives, stops and handles beautifully. The car has won numerous first place awards in the Illinois JCNA concours in the driven category ( high score in 2004 of 9.975 and the last time I entered in 2009 it got 9.848), all of the judging sheets are in the file. The only significant modifications (not including the many new OEM style parts) are a spin on oil adapter from XK's Unlimited, uprated brake lines, new chrome wire wheels and an aluminum radiator and electric fan conversion purchased from Classic Jaguar in Texas (the car never runs hot as a consequence). The numbers on the car do not match. I was quite happy having a correct period rebuilt cylinder head with the valve seats converted to unleaded fuel, even if it was not the original. If you must have a matching numbers car look elsewhere and be prepared to pay vastly more. If you want a beautiful, highly functional Series 1 coupe that has been put together properly and serviced properly by professionals, this is it. Note since posting: the discoloration on the stainless steel exhaust under the diff is not rust, it is melted plastic from a bag that flew under the car and glued itself on ( cannot be seen unless you are right underneath happily), the discoloration on the first quarter of the muffler portion is just from heat."

Gateway Classic Cars of Louisville is proud to present this 1966 Jaguar E-Type Series I Coupe! Pushing into the late 50s and early 60s Jaguar was working on a new car with factory equipment that would bring about massive changes in the automotive industry. Such items like independent front suspension, rack and pinion steering, disc brakes and unitary construction and more really set this Jag apart. The E-Type was unveiled in 1961 and would see 3 generations or series until 1974 and would be touted as one of the most beautiful cars ever made. Here we have a '66 model, a late Series I generation and wow is she a beauty! The Silver Blue paint is stunning on this car and really shows off the car's elegant lines. The navy blue leather seats look to be in nice condition and the lighter blue carpet complement the exterior appears in good order. Something about toggle switches gets me excited and this car has them in spades! This Jag even has Air Conditioning! Under the hood is believed to be a 4.2L Inline 6-cylinder engine and the transmission was upgraded to a 5-speed manual which really makes this car a blast to drive! Car is stated to only have 400 miles on it since restoration was completed. Current owner has had her for over 7 years and has had a few Jaguars and this was his favorite! Car was acquired from a private owner and is believed to be a 4-owner car. Under current ownership this Jag received a new upgraded transmission, new radiator, electric power steering, new leather heated seats, new carpet, new dash w/rebuilt gauges and LED display lighting, 3- point seat belts, Surround Sound Stereo w/Bluetooth, and wider wheels and tires for better handling. In the owner's words, "I have never driven a nicer E-Type and I think you'll agree!" The title is clean and clear and ready to be transferred into your name now! Car comes with a Great Britain Flag Car Cover. You'll be hard pressed to find a nicer Series I for the money, don't miss your chance to have this icon as I'm certain she won't last long! Auction description:

Glistening in opalescent silver blue paint, meticulously applied during a comprehensive restoration in 2002, this E-Type Coupe exudes a captivating aura of sophistication.

The engine is believed to be original but will be confirmed before the sale. During the 2002 restoration, a correct period rebuilt cylinder head was installed, with the valve seats converted to accommodate unleaded fuel, ensuring both authenticity and practicality. Additionally, the car received significant upgrades under prior ownership.
