This 1966 Jaguar XKE Series I coupe was refurbished in 2012 and has been modified with a Welsh five-speed manual transmission, an aluminum radiator with an electric fan, and a RetroAir air conditioning system. The car is powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six and is finished in Opalescent Silver Blue over tan leather. Equipment includes a limited-slip differential, enclosed headlights, 15″ wire-spoke steel wheels, power-assisted disc brakes, triple windshield wipers, and a RetroSound AM/FM radio. This XKE Series I coupe was acquired by the seller in 2022 and is now offered in Canada with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, the owner’s manual, service records, spare parts, and Ontario registration.
The Series I E-Types were equipped with covered headlights and taillights mounted above the chrome rear bumpers. This example is finished in Opalescent Silver Blue and was repainted during the aforementioned refurbishment. Additional equipment includes enclosed headlights, a louvered clamshell hood, wraparound chrome bumpers, a driver-side mirror, triple windshield wipers, a side-hinged rear hatch, and dual exhaust outlets. The seller notes a scratch on the rear window and a paint chip on the lower corner of the driver’s door.
The 15″ wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-off hubs and are mounted with 195/65 Cooper Lifeline tires. Braking is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors.
The cabin features bucket seats upholstered in tan leather along with color-coordinated door panels and carpets. Interior appointments include Coco floor mats, a RetroSound radio, black vinyl dash trim, a sliding rearview mirror, an AM/FM radio, and a RetroAir air conditioning system.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a Smiths 160-mph speedometer and 6k-rpm tachometer, while auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage are located in the center of the dashboard. The speedometer has been rebuilt and the five-digit odometer shows 32k miles, approximately 1,500 of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The 4.2-liter inline-six features triple SU carburetors and was factory rated at 265 horsepower and 283 lb-ft of torque. Cooling is through an aluminum radiator with an electric fan. Work under current ownership has included tuning the carburetors, changing the fluids, repairing electrical issues, and replacing the battery and voltage regulator. There is an oil leak.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a Welsh five-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificate shows the original colors and drivetrain numbers as well as the build and dispatch dates.
