1967 Jaguar XKE Series One Fixed Head Coupe, for sale by the third owner. Seller has owned this vehicle since 1982 and retains all records from original purchase in 1967. This Jaguar is for sale without reserve. I bought the car during college and figured I would restore it – 22 years later I am going to retire, and I really haven't started. Going to take up a new hobby I guess.
Vehicle Condition
History
This Jaguar was originally owned by Thomas Capra of Malibu, California; the car was sold to a Jeff Rubin in 1975, and I purchased the vehicle in 1982. There are no maintenance or service records to indicate any other owner.
The car has no record of collision, and there are no indications of chassis or monocoque subframe damage or repair.
Maintenance records indicate that the odometer rolled over (100,978 miles) on 22 OCT 1980. The current odometer reading is 125990.
The Vehicle Number is 1E33973. The motor number is 7E-11467-9. The transmission is original.
I operated the car as a daily driver until 1989. The car was infrequently driven until 1997, and has been idle since that point. The car has always been garaged and covered under my ownership. The car has a lapsed California registration last having been filed under a non-operation status. Condition of the vehicle is discussed below.
Condition
The engine is the original from purchase according to records. At this point, the engine will turn over easily but ignition is extremely difficult. The car was last driven in 1997.
I had the engine removed and overhauled by a British mechanic (Mick Brown, Import Repair Service, Salinas CA) in 1989. The clutch was replaced as well. I only drove the car a few times after that point while the car remained in the garage at home. The rebuild on the block was complete and all records are available.
The transmission was inspected during engine rebuild and returned without rebuild.
The resonators were replaced in 1987 (Shoupe and Celeste of San Diego). Unfortunately, the installed Series II split pipes vice the original yoked twins.
All five wheels were cleaned, reconditioned and respoked by British Wire Wheel in Santa Cruz, CA during 1988. New tires were placed on the wheels at that point.
The interior is far from original condition. The carpeting is some low pile thing without underfelts. The headliner is not original union cloth, and is deeply sagging. The instrument console is in good condition although the clock is missing. The dash is covered with some sort of aftermarket material. The rear view mirror is original. The sun visors are a velour felty nightmare. The door panels and seats are covered in a sort of letherette. All of the original interior fixtures are in place except the clock. A manual fan actuator switch was added beneath the instrument board. All of the glass is present and operable. The rear area has the original leather still installed, and this in fair shape.
The exterior was taken to metal in 1983/1984 (Pattison Paintwerks, Laguna Niguel, CA ). The engine and bonnet were removed, all doors off, and the body returned to the Willow Green factory scheme. I have more old pictures from this work that I will email as desired.
While the paint is fair for 20 years of age, the body has some dings on the doors, and one dent on the rear right wheel well. The chrome was removed and dipped at this time and is all present; windshield chrome has not been reinstalled following glass changeout in the 90s although it was set in place for the photos. I could not find the Amco bar; I had it from purchase, but can’t seen to find it now.
There is rust on this car – the spare boot shows rust on the forward and right side bulkheads – see photo. I don’t see any other rust on the car.
All of the instruments and electric circuits were functional except the clock.

This was my brothers car. He acquired it in 1982 and we drove it from Maryland to California in June of 1983 immediately after he graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and I had returned from Saudi Arabia. I have found several great old photos of this 1983 trip across the US and will post them as soon as I get them scanned.
My brother sold the car in late 2004 (see auction info in previous post) to Mr. Andy Bartlett in the U.K. Unfortunately, the car was heavily water damaged during the shipping process and arrived in the UK with heavy mold and rot damage as shown in the photos posted 4 December 2005. I don't know the details on what happened, but it seems that the car may have sat for several weeks in the open on the docks with the windows open in Long Beach, California during the record heavy rains that soaked California in late 2004 & early 2005. Whatever happened, the car is a real mess and will need extensive work in order to save it from mold, rot, and rust.
