This 1967 Jaguar XKE Series 1 Coupe received a full nut and bolt restoration that began in the late 1990s and was completed in the early 2000s. It was a labor of love by its private owner, an automotive industry executive, who consulted with the top Jaguar suppliers in the county and followed the JCNA manual carefully. He purchased the car from a co-worker in the early 1990s and slowly began the process of completely disassembling and cataloging every single piece for restoration. He then mounted the monocoque to a rotisserie and stripped the body to bare metal and performed all necessary repairs in the original style of craftsmanship using lead instead of plastic filler. The car was repainted Carmen Red and all exterior brightwork was restored by Performance Plating. The black leather interior was retrimmed using materials supplied by G.W. Bartlett. All mechanical systems were restored including an engine and gearbox rebuild with machine work and parts being supplied by Straight Six Inc. Since restoration, the car has been driven a few hundred miles per year and serviced as needed.

This is a beautifully restored Jaguar XKE that retains its matching numbers engine and is an excellent driver.

It would have had open headlights as delivered, as open headlight deliveries began in January of '67 with VIN 1E34113. There were seven known exceptions after that VIN for the FHC the last believed to be 1E34212

' Pauls" 1E34366 could argue with those numbers....and 1E34365 and 1E34363 May 67 build date and 1E34342 . There is no fast and firm start and stop for anything XKE

This 1967 Jaguar XKE is a Series I coupe that was built on May 22, 1967, and the seller states that the car was refurbished in the 1990s. Further cosmetic and mechanical refurbishment work following its acquisition by the current owner in 2022 consisted of refreshing the interior, overhauling the front brakes, installing an air conditioning system from Classic Auto Air, fabricating a center stack, and replacing a front turn indicator and the left door lock as well as the left side mirror, shifter and parking brake boots, and the turn signal and brake light switches. The 4.2-liter inline-six was serviced by machining the rear of the crank to accept a lip-seal-style rear main seal, ceramic coating the exhaust manifolds, and replacing the timing set, oil pump driveshaft, battery, coolant temperature sensor, clutch assembly, ignition components, accessory belts, and various coolant and vacuum hoses. Additional equipment includes a four-speed manual transmission, triple SU side-draft carburetors, covered headlights, 15″ chrome wire wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, and a wood-rimmed steering wheel. This XKE coupe is now offered at no reserve with a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate, service records, removed parts, refurbishment photos, and a clean Texas title in the name of the seller’s spouse.

Finished from the factory in Opalescent Maroon, the seller states that the car was refinished in its current shade of red in the 1990s. Equipment includes a vented hood, chrome bumpers, a side-opening rear hatch, and polished dual exhaust outlets. Under current ownership, a replacement front right turn indicator lens and left side mirror were installed along with Pozidriv screws for the headlight lenses. The seller notes a scratch on the left rocker panel, and the left door sags when open. A clip-on Fosseway Performance left side mirror will accompany the car.

Chrome 15″ wire wheels feature two-eared knockoffs and are mounted with 185-series Vredestein Sprint Classic tires that show 2021 production date codes. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes with inboard rear rotors. The front brake calipers, pads, and rotors were replaced in 2022.

The cabin was refreshed under current ownership and houses low-back bucket seats upholstered in black leather with a color-coordinated interior and padded dashboard. The radio was removed and a shortened center stack was fabricated to accommodate vents for the air conditioning system from Classic Auto Air. The turn signal switch, the label strip for the dash switches, the brake light switch, and the shifter and parking brake boots were replaced during the refresh, and the heater core was bypassed. A replacement left door lock has been installed, and its key is incompatible with the other locks.

The wood-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer. Supplementary gauges are situated at the center of the dashboard. The speedometer reading is inconsistent per the seller. The five-digit odometer shows 40k miles, less than 1k of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.

The seller states that the twin-cam 4.2L inline-six was removed and the rear of the crankshaft was machined and fitted with a lip-seal-style rear main seal from Crosthwaite & Gardiner in 2022. Additional work under current ownership consisted of applying a Jet-Hot ceramic coating to the exhaust headers and installing a CoolCat spin-on oil filter adapter, a 170-degree thermostat, a Lucas Sports ignition coil, a high-output alternator, a gear-reduction starter, and an aluminum radiator with a 17″ Spal electric cooling fan as well as replacing the timing set, oil pump driveshaft, battery, coolant temperature sensor, spark plugs, ignition wires, accessory belts, and various coolant and vacuum hoses. An oil change was carried out in June 2023.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission that was fitted with a Borg & Beck clutch disc, pressure plate, and throwout bearing in 2022. The clutch master and slave cylinders were also replaced that year.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate indicates a manufacture date of May 22, 1967, and lists the factory serial numbers and colors. Recent service records and the removed center stack housing a radio are included in the sale and can be seen in the gallery below.

Photos taken at various stages of the refurbishment work are provided at the end of the gallery.

The Texas title notes “VIN certification waived” under the remarks section.
