In 2004 Classic AutoSports, sold this car to Bob Fraser in Angus Scotland. It was converted to right hand drive and the engine rebuilt. Bob has subsequently had the car re painted, re built suspension and along with several other upgrades the car now looks and drives beautifully. It's registration number is WGC 230F.

I really doubt this is a '63. Probably a '68 Series 1.5.

WGC230F is a car we know well having supplied it to the last owner in Toulouse, France six years ago. The matching numbers E Type was manufactured on 25th September 1967 and left the factory in Opalescent Maroon with Black trim and whilst officially a Series 1 4.2 FHC, it is within the Series 1.5 chassis number series explaining the open headlights. The car started life in the USA, distributed by Jaguar Cars New York and was converted to RHD after arriving in the UK in 1989. The car's history is superbly documented, and we know from 1977 to 1988 in was in the Bremerton area of Washington. During his ownership he covered 20,000 miles and spent thousands of dollars on regular servicing and general maintenance. Major work in this period included an engine overhaul, re-paint and some re-chroming. The car was used on a regular basis and sold in 1988, a year prior to being shipped to the UK.

In 1989 the E Type was brought to the UK in a solid, useable condition and converted to RHD. From UK registration in 1989 to 2003 it covered 14,000 miles and maintenance receipts were over £4,000. In 2003 it had a light restoration that included the body being stripped down and repainted and built up with new rubbers. The engine was stripped and rebuilt with new pistons and bearings. The clutch was replaced, new manifold and stainless steel exhaust fitted along with uprated callipers, new discs, new steering rack and ball joints. We have photographs of the work and receipts for £6,000 drom suppliers to the owner, a Scottish architect. Up to 2014 when we last supplied the car it had covered 8,000 miles and from 2014 to 2020 it covered a further 3,000 miles on French roads. This is an incredibly reliable, useable E Type and on the road is very impressive and outstanding to drive, it should not disapoint.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
