1E34853 is described by its current owner, Bob Onslow, in an article in the October 2020 edition of The E-type magazine (editor Philip Porter). He writes: “The car had been restored to a very high standard back in 1998-’99 with new sills, floorpans, bottom doors, rear wheel arches, the engine fully stripped and re-bored, the head skimmed and all rebuilt, the front suspension and IRS stripped and powder coated, etc, etc. It was reupholstered and finished with a different coat of paint that still looks absolutely beautiful today. Receipts for new parts used were abundant and there were two photo albums of the restoration, in addition to a very interesting history.”

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
