I picked up the car from a dealer near Chicago on 1 Feb 2002, 34 years to the day that it was built. The car had been near Allentown, Pa for several years.

I recently posted a series of pix taken during the partial restoration of this car. They are at www.heartfield.net

Sellers description:
1968 Series 1.5 E-type. The rarest and most desirable of E-types, combining the perfect body style of the Series 1 but with full syncromesh transmission, and other Series 2 upgrades. This car appears to be the factory prototype for one upgrade - adjustable seat backs. The seat frame still has the factory chalk marks and has been hand welded. This car also has an XJ6 Series 3 cyclinder head with the improved cams and large valves. The head was rebuilt this year. The engine is very strong and neither leaks nor burns any oil whatsoever. The convoluted and restricted second intake manifold has been replaced with a set of open spool pieces which combined with the exhaust headers that are also fitted vastly improves the breathing of the engine. New plugs, wire and distributor cap were fitted this year. Pertronix ignition is fitted, and an original rebuilt spare distributor is included with the car. The engine was professionally rebuilt 6 years ago. The engine starts very easily and readily.

The car was stripped to bare metal using soda blasting and repainted 5 years ago. There is a small area of paint blistering on the back of the hood as shown on the photo. All the chrome was redone and is perfect. Knock-off wheel spinners were fitted and these are perfect with no flaked chrome and no hammer marks.

All the brakes and the IRS were rebuilt 8 years ago. New shocks were fitted all around.

This was an American car from Long Island and has factory A/C. The A/C has not been restored and is untested, but complete.

The car is painted the original colour of BRG, and has the original black interior as per the JDHT certificate, which is included with the car. This was a special order colour scheme in 1968. The interior is largely unrestored. I have driven the car up to 1200 km a day, and it is very comfortable to drive.

New Redline tires were fitted this year and have less than 2000 km on them. The car has 69,000 original miles.

The hood and boot fit is very good, but the door fit is not so good due to new door skins being fitted improperly by me. A good body shop could make this right of not much money.

All lights, horn, etc function. The clock was replaced with an aftermarket unit. Shoulder belts are fitted. The original radio is installed and is functional. The speedometer is not accurate, but functional.

All the original parts are available, including the original cylinder head, cams, manifolds, etc. There would be an extra shipping charge for the original parts since they are no longer in the same city as the car.

I love this car, but i have 3 Jags and now have only 2 parking spots, and I love my XJS TWR more, and I need the XJ8 as a daily driver. So the E-type has to go. The car is in the port city of Victoria, BC.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
