ebay item #2428391663 8/18/03
Sellers comment:
Clean 68 E-type. Body and interior straight, engine strong. Has 4 speed manual transmission. Estimate 80K on car (odometer was broken for a while- registers 76K). Rebuilt engine (ring/valves by prev owner, lower end bearings, clutch by me)- very strong. New interior (leather in great condition). Just a little more work and this car will be about perfect. Comes with several extras- tuned exhaust headers, intake manifold, manual and car cover, as well as lots of small chrome pieces and weatherstripping. About 90% of frame-up restoration is completed.

Vehicle Condition
Generally good. Problems include typical Jag wiring quirks (nothing serious) and a small rust spot at rear exh pipe hanger (below spare tire). All chrome and glass okay- good paint with a few nicks- none large.

Opening bid $12,000, no bids yet, 4 days left in auction. Car now said to be located in Golden, Colorado. Buy it now price US $17,500.

Sellers description:
968 Jaguar 4.2 E-Type, Series 1½, 2 Seat Coupe, great condition with extensive rebuild/refurb.

Burgundy exterior with tan interior & leather seats, factory chrome wire wheels and knock-off hubs. 76,400 recorded miles (believed to be accurate), 4 speed manual transmission with 4.2 liter in-line 6 cylinder engine with twin Stromberg carburetors.

The vehicle is registered in Denver, Colorado and has a current 5 year emissions certificate, obtained in April 2005.

I want to be as accurate as possible with my description of the vehicle, the exterior of the vehicle / paint finish is good and looks great from 6 feet but would benefit from some minor cosmetic work to make it look great.

The interior of the vehicle is like new with most of it being replaced in the last year.
Drives well and is in very good condition for a car that’s approaching its 40th birthday.

The work performed / new equipment fitted over the past 3 years includes:
Mechanical: Engine rebuilt (rings/valves, rod/main bearings replaced), timing chain adjusted, carburetors rebuilt & engine expertly tuned, new clutch slave cylinder, braking system overhaul, including master cylinder rebuild. New alternator, fuel pump and battery.

Electrical: New full wiring harness, professionally shop installed. New plugs plug leads, rotor, contacts etc.

Interior: New carpets, door panels, rocker covers, headliner, sun visors, dash top. Leather seats refurbished (no rips or tears etc.) and steering wheel refinished. AM/FM radio & CD player and speakers installed.

Exterior: New knock-off hubs, rear hatch rubber and chrome, rear quarter rubbers replaced, lens covers, various chrome etc.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
