Lot #32120

private Sale

Wilmslow, Cheshire, United Kingdom

This Jaguar E-Type Series 1 4.2 FHC 2+2 is a timelessly elegant and desirable classic British sports car, offered from long-term ownership and with a very well-documented maintenance history.

Under the bonnet sits the ‘numbers matching’ naturally aspirated 4.2-litre straight-six, fed by triple SU carburettors, which sends its power to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission.

This original UK-market example was first registered in July 1966, and has been with its current and fifth owner for 25 years.

The odometer shows 78,207 miles from new.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

This E-Type Series 1 4.2 FHC 2+2 is finished in a timeless shade of white, over a black leather-trimmed interior, punctuated by chrome trim highlights.

It rides on a set of 15-inch cross-spoke wire wheels with two-spoke knock-offs, and shod in Avon Radial Steel tyres.

Equipment includes a top-tinted windscreen, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, push-out rear windows, Smiths gauges, a push-button Radiomobile stereo, heater and ventilation controls, and a locking glove compartment.

The car comes with an original maintenance and service handbook, the V5C, an original maintenance poster, and an extensive collection of maintenance invoices dating back to 1983, including MOT certificates, parts invoices, maintenance invoices, and service history.

CONDITION

Specific notes from the seller include: some crazed paintwork on the roof, minor scuffs elsewhere on the car, and age-related signs of wear on the upholstery, especially on the front seats.

The car’s last MOT test was conducted on 18 July 2017 at 78,061 miles, which resulted in a first-time pass with no advisories.

SERVICE HISTORY

This E-Type’s most recent maintenance was carried out between June and August 2024 at 78,098 miles by Trevor Farrington Ltd, which consisted of the clutch slave cylinder being honed out and refitted, the universal joint cleaned and re-greased, the coolant drained, the system cleaned with new pipes and hose kit fitted, the coolant renewed, three carburettor floats, gaskets and washers replaced, and new spark plugs being fitted.

Other notable maintenance includes a stainless-steel exhaust system being fitted in 2004.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
