Mystery solved: this well known factory picture of the E-type assembly line was taken on June 22nd, 1966, 11:15 hours at the Browns Lane plant. The Pale Primrose car first on the line was one of only seven E-types sold new to the distributor in Singapore. No further info, but a BIG thank you for Anders Clausager for finding this one for us!

Thanks Pekka!
Car is the cover photo of an article in Wired about Jaguar's 75th anniversary. Note the VIN on the toolbox attached to the car on the assembly line.

Hi Paul,
Yes, but it's NOT the VIN, it's the body number. That's what had led so many people astray before, both the box next to the car on the assembly line and the decal on the windscreen have the BODY number, which in this case is (4E)51312. Also quite interesting to see the markings like "RAT" surely for Right hand drive AuTomatic in this case, all the bonnets for both E-type lines (one for 2+2's, one for SWB OTS's and FHC's) are on the left.
