Following in the wheel tracks of the XK line, the Jaguar E Type owed much to the race proven technology of the legendary D Type. The first production model with disc brakes and independent suspension all round was announced in March 1961 as a replacement for the XK150. The first of the line was powered with the familiar XK six of 3791cc capacity, producing an immensely impressive for the day 265bhp at the flywheel. Thanks to aerodynamically slippery bodywork of the open roadster or fixed head closed coupe body styles offered - initially with faired-in headlamps behind cowls - performance was sensational and the model instantly achieved cult status. For those early E Type owners could enjoy camera-free 150mph performance for less than ú2100 - by comparison the DB4 from rival Aston Martin cost a thumping ú3755!
The car on offer here, an always righthand drive 2+2 coupe which first left the Browns Lane, Coventry, works in 1966, has comprehensive maintenance history on file. The owner describes the fixed head bodywork and silver grey as perfect and the grey interior very good. The 4.2-litre six is reportedly in very good order and the former automatic transmission has been replaced with a 5-speed manual gearbox at some time, the gearbox fitted having been reconditioned in 2002. All the electrical equipment is said to be very good, too, and both wheels and tyres have been renewed.

For sale privately
www.classiccarsforsale.co.uk/jaguar/e-type/185596
1966 JAGUAR E-TYPE - £115,000
It has been my privilege to have owned this car since 2005. It has been properly and meticulously restored to original Factory settings over the past few years. I purchased this car from the e-type centre (owners now retired & no longer trading). It was one of their best ones and the dealer was not too keen to sell it at the time as it was part of their own collection. I have taken great deal of care of it and spent just under 60K in restoration works. I have been the only person driving this car since 2005. The reason for the sale is simply due to its unsuitability for my young family. This car is incredibly unique with real integrity and does not come to market readily. Ideally I would like to sell privately so I have a sense of her new home and owner.
The full list of what is being offered is below:
1) Only 2 previous owners
2) Original 4235cc engine with less than 47000 genuine miles from new, 1966.
3) A full & tidy ring binder folder with all the original invoices for the restoration works undertaken to date.
4) 2 Limited edition Royal Mail anniversary Stamps, laminated.
5) Framed black & white poster of the legend.
6) Historic Tax discs, all laminated
7) Historic MOT certificates that will confirm mileage, all laminated.
8) Original signed letter, dated July 1982, from first owner, confirming mileage and usage from 1966. Laminated.
9) Original 1966 TAX document confirming first owner's name, engine and chassis numbers. Laminated.
10) Spare wheel, jack plus Rawhide mallet.
11) Heavy duty jump leads, not had to use as yet.
12) Accident free.
13) Upgraded 5 speed gear box.
14) Upgraded vented disc brakes, front and rear.
15) Upgraded brake callipers.
16) Upgraded Radiator & water tank. This car does not over heat. A common e-type issue in traffic.
17) New Water Pump.
18) Kenlow fan.
19) Full rebuild & refurbishment of cylinder heads & valves.
20) Chassis and suspension all reset & refurbished to original spec. For some reason it came with a hard suspension, as if it was racing on a track everyday!

37) Full re-trim of interior to Jaguar spec colours and non stretch vinyl.
38) New seats all in new Connelly leather, Jaguar colour spec.
39) Complete high spec re-sprays to original colour.
Please note the acrylic on board painting of my car is not included. This painting hangs above my fireplace. Feel free to make an offer for the art bit, if inclined!! It was painted by Kris Legg from a photo session in front of St Giles In the Fields Church in Denmark Street, London W1.
This car is ready for everyday use. I have used it very little since purchase. But it did take me & my wife to Italy & back on our honey moon. It works perfect & looks great. It has been garaged all the time. A car of this calibre is currently on the market for double the asking price. So please do not attempt to bargain, as selling my baby is bad enough. I just want this beauty to go to the right person who will appreciate & enjoy it. A great car and a brilliant investment.
Note no mention of why registration number has changed ot that is a 2+2 model which originally had auto box
