www.swva.co.uk/classic-car/jaguar-22-e-type-series-%c2%bd-1968/

Description:

- Fantastic, ‘original feel’ example of the Series 1 ½ E-Type
- Finished in desirable Opalescent Gunmetal Grey over a black leather interior
- Owned by The Vendor for the last 18 years
- Major work completed in January 2024 (invoice on file)
- V5 document records just 4 owners in 56 years

On the Surface: This 1968 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 1/2 2+2 is a fantastic, ‘original feel’ example, finished in stunning Opalescent Gunmetal Grey over a black leather interior. The car has been garaged under the care of The Vendor, maintaining its fantastic exterior condition. Notably, it features a desirable Webasto sunroof.

Maintenance & History: The history file for this car is extensive, with invoices totaling nearly £5,500, MOTs dating back to 1999, and old tax discs included. A significant invoice from January 2024 details major work, including: Dismantling and removal of the exhaust system and rear axle, Removal of the differential from the subframe, inspection, and replacement with a limited-slip differential (LSD) unit due to a worn carrier, Dismantling of the nearside and offside uprights, replacing worn bearings with new ones, Renewal of halfshaft UJ’s, greasing, and reassembly, Drilling and wiring of incorrect mounting bolts to secure, Bleeding of the brakes and adjustment of the handbrake, Refitting of the exhaust system, Renewal of worn steering rack mounts, Pressure testing of the cooling system to identify leaks, draining coolant, renewing leaking hoses, cleaning, resealing, and refitting, topping up antifreeze, and bleeding the system

The car has had just 4 owners in its 56-year history, according to the V5 registration document. The Vendor acquired the vehicle in June 2006 and has owned the car for the past 18 years.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
