Ebay item 5/22/05

Current bid $4,239.89 (Reserve not met), 4 bids, 6 days left in auction.

Sellers description:
HERE IS ANOTHER GREAT DISCOVERY! THIS 1967 JAGUAR XKE HAS BEEN IN A HEATED GARAGE FOR THE PAST 20 YEARS! THE CAR HAS HAD ONLY 2 OWNERS AND WITH THE PASSING OF THE SECOND OWNER IT RECENTLY WAS DISCOVERED AND PULLED FROM ITS YEARS OF HIBERNATION. THIS VINTAGE JAGUAR IS VERY ORIGINAL AND I WAS AMAZED TO DISCOVER THE ORIGINAL OWNERS MANUALS AND LITERATURE AS WELL AS THE TOOL KIT ROLL AND ORIGINAL JACK/KNOCK OFF HAMMER IN THE BOOT! I HAVE OWNED SEVERAL XKE'S AND THIS IS ONE OF THE BETTER ONES I HAVE FOUND IN TERMS OF HOW IT WAS PRESERVED. EVERYTHING IS INTACT, STILL HAS THE ORIGINAL JAGUAR SEATBELTS. I LUBRICATED THE CYLINDERS AND HOOKED UP A FRESH BATTERY TO DISCOVER THE MOTOR SPINS FREELY WITH GOOD COMPRESSION AND THE ENGINE BAY LOOKS GOOD. THIS IS OF COURSE A MATCHING NUMBERS ENGINE /CHASSIS/ HEAD ETC CAR. I HAVE MADE NO ATTEMPT TO GET THE JAG RUNNING AS IT REMAINS A RESTORATION PROJECT FOR THE LUCKY WINNER. THIS IS A LOW RUST E-TYPE WHICH IS RARE, THE FLOORS ARE NICE WITH ONLY A SMALL AREA NEAR THE PASSENGER FOOT WELL AND SOME BUBBLING AROUND THE REAR WHEEL ARCHES, I TOOK SEVERAL PHOTOS OF THE UNDERCARRIAGE TO SHOW THIS, THERE ARE SOME SMALL SPOTS HERE AND THERE BUT OVER ALL THIS IS NOT A RUST BUCKET LIKE SOME PROJECTS I HAVE SEEN ON EBAY. THE PREVIOUS OWNER TINKERED ON THE CAR FROM TIME TO TIME BUT RARELY DROVE IT. HE HAD STARTED TO SAND THE PAINT NEAR THE FRONT SECTION BY THE WINDSHIELD AND IT HAS SOME PRIMER ON IT, THE CAR HAS VARIOUS DENTS AND DINGS. THERE WAS A TRIM STRIP GLUED DOWN THE SIDE OF THE CAR TO PROTECT IT FROM PARKING LOT DOOR DINGS, AND THE GLUE RESIDUE IS STILL THERE, ITS WHAT YOU SEE IN THE PICS. THE INTERIOR APPEARS ALL ORIGINAL AND WITH A HOT BATTERY THE ACCESSORIES ALL WORKED, THIS CAR STILL HAS THE WARNING STICKER ON THE SPEEDOMETER! IT REALLY IS A CAR THAT HAS NOT BEEN DICKED OVER LIKE MOST. THE BONNET SHUTS TIGHT AND THE CAR DOES NOT APPEAR TO HAVE BEEN IN ANY ACCIDENTS. THIS IS A GREAT PROJECT FOR SOMEONE AND WILL MAKE A WONDERFUL TOURING CLASSIC WHEN FINISHED. THIS IS NOT A RUNNING AUTOMOBILE AND IT NOT A CAR YOU CAN TAKE HOME FRIDAY AND DRIVE TO WORK ON MONDAY, IT NEEDS RESTORATION. THE GAS IS OLD AND THE TANK WILL NEED A FULL FLUSH, THERE IS CERTAINLY GUNK AND CORRODED GAS IN THE TANK, THE BRAKES WOULD NEED REBUILDING AND ANYTHING THAT A CAR NEEDS AFTER SITTING INACTIVE FOR YEARS. ITS UP TO YOU THE LEVEL OF RESTORATION, YOU COULD MAKE IT A NICE DRIVER OR A CONCOURSE SHOW WINNER, THATS A PERSONAL CHOICE. THE SERIES ONE JAG'S ARE THE PRETTIEST AND THE TRIPLE SU CARBS ARE GREAT EYE CANDY WHEN YOU LOOK UNDER THE HOOD. THE CAR IS ALMOST 40 YEARS OLD AND WILL BE SOLD AS IS WHERE IS, ASK QUESTIONS NOW NOT LATER, ITS A NON RUNNING BRITISH CAR NOT A 98 HONDA ACCORD SO PLEASE ASK INTELLIGENT QUESTIONS NOT ONES LIKE, "IF I BRING A BATTERY CAN I DRIVE IT HOME 900 MILES?" CLEAR TITLE.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
