Lot #73745

This 1967 Jaguar XKE 2+2 is finished in silver over red leather and powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six mated to a three-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes knock-off wheels, triple carburetors, a stainless-steel exhaust system, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, Smiths instrumentation, and a Kenwood stereo. The car was acquired by the seller in 2002, and subsequent work included stripping and refinishing the body, replacing the alternator, and servicing the brakes. This Series I 2+2 is now offered with partial service records and a transferable New York registration.

The body was stripped and refinished in silver in 2014. Equipment includes a louvered hood, dual mirrors, dual exhaust exits, and chrome bumpers and trim.

Chrome knock-off wire wheels are mounted with Coker Classic red-line tires. Service during current ownership included replacing the brake master cylinder and brake servo.

The cabin features red leather seats and door panels along with matching carpets. Equipment includes a heater as well as a Kenwood stereo and speakers.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer, while an ammeter and gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level are mounted in the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 40k miles, approximately 1k of which were added during current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.

The 4.2-liter inline-six is equipped with three carburetors and a stainless-steel exhaust system. The alternator, gas tank, and radiator were replaced during current ownership. The seller notes that the car drips oil after driving.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission.

The original sales invoice shows colors and equipment, along with a total price of $6,986. Service records dating to 2001 are also included in the sale.

Additional images from various stages of the refurbishment are provided in the gallery below.

The car does not have a title, as it is registered in a state that does not issue titles for a vehicle of its age. It is being sold on its registration.

Seller's description:

Jaguar E-Type series 1 2+2 built 2/28/67, matching numbers , Jaguar heritage certificate prepared in my name [see gallery].I am the 5 th owner of this vehicle and have the names, most service history and repair history on all owners. Please see gallery picture. This is a very original Jaguar. The body, paint, chrome and rubber moldings were professionally restored in 2015. The interior is original and so are the wire wheels. The redline Coker tires were installed in 2017 and have very little mileage on them. The car is well maintained, drives and stops well, and the automatic transmission works well and can be manually shifted if so desired as the borg Warner transmission was designed that way. The car is extremely solid with its original floors and no apparent rust issues. All the jacking points under the car are there and solid plus the entire exhaust system has very little mileage on it. The mileage is 40200 currently and can be documented by all the service documents from previous owners and myself that go with the sale. Although the interior is original there are no tears or holes in the seats or flooring and the headliner is in very good condition with no drooping, it’s solid. Obviously, it has patina but it looks very good. The steering wheel has no cracks in the wood and all the gauges work with the exception of the clock. The car comes with all the original brochures received from the dealer including the original invoice from Jaguar cars in New York !All the glass area looks great with no cracks or chips. The dashboard ends show some creases but I believe that is an easy repair. All the lights work and the after market radio works well (but the original radio I have and goes with the sale) The exterior paint is beautiful but it’s not the original color paint, it’s a silver metallic whereas the original color was Opalescent silver grey which was a darker shade of silver. Under the bonnet, in the boot wheel well, the floors and behind the interior center drop down you can see the original color silver grey but everywhere else your eye can see it is silver metallic. Door jams, under the doors and the entire body were all painted in 2015 along with chrome, rubber moldings etc. I have a number of pictures of the body restoration that goes with the sale. This is a very nice car. The paint, body and chrome are excellent to show quality. I would say the interior is preservation quality , overall I would describe the car as a excellent driver quality that turns heads everywhere you will drive it. It’s a Beauty but no garage queen as I love a beautiful looking car but I like to drive them. It has the usual minor oil seepage but it’s not a lot. A few drops after a run. There are a few minor chips and one small scuff in the paint but I’m being very picky now. The body is very straight. The wire wheels are original and do show some minor rust in spots along with the spinners which show some patina. The car starts up well and runs cool. In march of 2022 the previous owner had his jag shop install a larger radiator, external oil cooler and electric fan were installed along with a new header tank. In my short ownership I had all four rear calipers replaced plus installed a new battery besides normal oil change , gas filter etc. The ride itself is quite comfortable and it runs extremely well, no smoke No unusual noises. I would ask you to study the body of this car. The gaps are wonderful, doors boot and bonnet open and close as they should.

Undergoing engine rebuild and assorted repairs.
Cleaning undercarriage for any repairs and paint.
Thinking of changing interior color from the dark red to lighter color red.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
