Car on BAT
bringatrailer.com/listing/1969-jaguar-xke-roadster-21/

Seller's description:
Lot #19123
Seller: KKR
Location: Redding, California 96003
Chassis: 1R10135
52k Indicated Miles
4.2L DOHC Inline-Six
4-Speed Manual Transmission
Triple SU Carburetors
Older Engine Rebuild
Replacement Front Subframes and Bonnet
Owner's Manual
Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate
Private Party or Dealer: Private Party

This 1969 Jaguar XKE Roadster is finished in silver over black leather and is powered by a 4.2L inline-six paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. The car was reportedly first sold in California before being acquired in 1976 by the current owner, who was the proprietor of an auto repair shop in Northern California. Features include triple SU carburetors, knock-off wire wheels, and a set of California blue plates. This Series II open two-seater is now offered on behalf of the current owner with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, an owner’s manual, and a clean California title.

The body is finished in silver, which the seller notes is an older repaint. Dull surfaces, blemishes, and dents are present throughout the car and shown up-close in the gallery below. Per the seller, the bonnet and side rails appear to have been replaced and show different paint colors underneath. Some curb damage is also noted on the underside of the nose, and the boot lid and door fit are off. A walk-around and driving demonstration can be seen here.

Factory 15″ wire wheels wear Cornell tires. The seller notes that the rubber seals and weatherstripping throughout the car show cracks and need replacement. The window on the black soft top has faded, and the top is pictured in the lowered and raised position in gallery photographs.

The black leather interior exhibits cracks on the seats and dash, and features a wooden 3-spoke steering wheel and shift knob. Cocomats protect the carpets underneath, and an AM/FM radio resides in the center console. The air conditioning compressor has been removed, though the console and controls remain in place.

Smiths instrumentation includes a 160-mph speedometer and a non-functioning tachometer, along with auxiliary gauges for charge level, oil pressure, water temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer indicates 52k miles.

Power comes from the numbers-matching 4.2L inline-six which is fitted with a Series I-style triple SU carburetor setup. The engine is said to have been rebuilt in the past, though seller notes that the rubber components are old and a number of oil leaks are present. A recent compression test reportedly showed around 120psi across all cylinders. Shifting is through 4-speed manual gearbox, with the seller noting clutch judder and a grind if the shift into second gear is rushed.

The front crossmember is believed to be from a 3.8L E-Type roadster and does not bear a serial matching the car’s chassis number. Several photographs of the underside have been provided below, with an area of corrosion noted on the driver-side floor pan below the battery’s location.

A Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate is included and shows the date of manufacture, serial numbers, and original colors.

The spare, jack, front bumperettes, soft top boot, and owner’s manual accompany the sale along with the owner’s first registration document from September 1976.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
