Sellers description:
Impressive '69 E Type with large history file since virtually new . The car was originally sold by Baker motors , Atlanta and remained with the owner until resold in 1977. It stayed in the metro Atlanta area where it was restored over a lengthy period using original parts supplied from the UK . NO RUST repairs were needed and extensive documentation receipts and packets of "old style" photos accompany the car .
Car is numbers matching, comes with original engine and gearbox , the only modifications made are the triple carb setup as found on the series 1 cars and the use of a Jaguar XJ6 series 111 cylinder head that has the larger valves, both improve performance, and the original head, carbs and inlet manifold are included with the car . Car was stored for 20 years before being revived in 2012 by Speedwell Cars ( A British classic car restoration shop in GA) and mileage based on records is believed to be correct .
On reviving the car from its lengthy sleep prior to my purchase in early 2013 , the following was done :
Remove fuel tank, fuel pump , replace filter, lines and boil tank . Remove carbs and rebuild.
Remove cylinder head , perform valve job, install hardened exhaust valve seats, exhaust manifolds ceramic coated. Checked all for integrity and reinstall with new gaskets.
Full fluids change, flushing of all lines, new filters , new hoses. lube and grease all fittings, replaced four ball-joint gators.
New battery, new tires - Vredstein H rated 185HR15 Sprint .
Engine compression 150lb all 6 cylinders.
Complete check of electrics , operational functionality and road testing.
The car starts easily and settles into a nice idle , oil pressure around 40 psi at warm idle, the clutch engages exactly as it should , car accelerates easily and purposefully . the original 4 speed gearbox is very smooth . No rattles, squeaks, just silken power and instantaneous response. Steering is tight and suspension compliant, a very nice ride . Brakes work perfectly , car stops quickly in a straight line.
The interior is very nice, the black leather is supple, seats are comfortable , dash, steering wheel and interior door panels are really nice.
The paint is now nearly 30 years old but shows beautifully, there are a few small blemishes in the finish, in a few places (white spots shown in the photos,) but hard to see unless up very close, and in now way detract from the overall impressions of the car , she is beautiful !
Reason for selling as it was a present for my wife who loves her Range Rover and has not driven it in nearly 5 years !! I start the car and occasionally drive her , she has recently been serviced and checked out by our European car specialist garage, found to be in fantastic rust free shape with a clean undercarriage , so feel confident this is a really good and "no excuses" Jaguar. She can be driven or shipped anywhere.
