Ebay item 12/7/09

cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll

Current bid $13,423 reserve not met, 6 bids 8 days left in auction. Belle Harbor, New York.

Sellers description:

One owner 1969-1970 Jaguar roadster - convertible sports car. Original 4.2 engine.

Bought new in England upon return from Viet Nam (purchase order to APO in late 1969) then delivered to W.Virginia March,1970 for brief remainder of Military service then this Jaguar and Sgt.Daniel Smith spent all of the following +/-38 years in Odessa, Texas. I have the car here in Belle Harbor, NY for past few months. YOU CAN STILL SEE HIS SPECIAL TEXAS UKV PLATES! Mr. Smith had special 3 digit Texas plates since about 1970!!! A true one owner car!

I have clear title, and all original paperwork, including dealership paperwork , overseas delivery order, original warranty, registration book, service booklet, etc.etc.

This Jaguar roadster was loved and driven until just 3 years ago when he passed away, no one esle had driven this car until I drove it twice around the block after last month having had the carburators rebuilt at a cost of about $500 with installation. Had oil changed, all new filters for oil & gas, new fuel pump, new brake hose, and other new parts.

This car was always garage kept, top was always down in Texas, and the car is still straight and solid, the paint is a nice smooth repaint, it is as you can see very very nice with the exception of a few touchups I recently did to cover a few scratches and you will want to redo (you can see in the pictures before and after I touched up the few scratches caused by the Mr.Smith's dog paws, the dog would paw the car over & over to go for a ride, so he made deep scratches in a few spots such as the doors) so I had the color matched and then I touched it up- I tried, but not well, so you'll have your paint man do a better touch up of those scratched spots(I'll include the small can of touch up paint) Otherwise..she shines well it is VERY presentable. A solid straight body with no dings or dents; underbody is undercoated/ protected, trunk is clean and excellent with all original linings.

The mileage shows 04158 but I have no idea what is actual or if odometer works or not; this man drove and loved the car until he passed- he took care but not fanatical detail care, just enough to drive it. The drivers seat leans back when top is up. The car has new battery and she starts now every time with the carburators rebuilt, she runs fine for a few minutes and then begins to puff out the exhaust, it was ok to drive around the block, but increased as the car got warm- So my family mechanic came to my home and checked - he said it needs a new head gasket- so, he found someone to do this and they want $500+parts (gasket is about $30+other bits and anything else that may be needed?) I just do not want to spend over $500 now+ the flatbed, so I decided to sell her as she is. That is all she needs to be a driver again, my mechanic went over just about everything else at my expense. All the guages are working except gas guage, All lights work fine, Brakes stop well. Exhuast is OK; The tires are excellent; wire wheels are good; top is good; It still even has all the original tool roll! AND the VERY RARE & valuable Tonneau cover (it is worth over $1000 alone, because it is very rare! Original keys and Jaguar fob.

Car to be at auction 7/22

www.artcurial.com/en/lot-1969-jaguar-type-e-42l-roadster-4224-145

Auction description:

Sale Le Mans Classic 2022 - 02 july 2022 /Lot 145 1969 Jaguar Type E 4.2L Roadster

French title

Chassis No. 1R 10810

Engine No. 7R-7680-9

- Elegant convertible version

- Beautiful quality restoration

- Original engine and gearbox

Originally from North America, this car features a straight six-cylinder engine, fuelled by two Stromberg carburettors instead of the three British S.U. reserved for Europe. At that time, Jaguar was in great shape and exported a huge part of its production to the USA.

Returning from the United States, a complete restoration was carried out on this E-Type 4.2L convertible in Italy in 2011 and 2012 (photo file provided). It was acquired by our collector, a rally driver from Carcassonne, when it had only travelled a hundred kilometres since its restoration. Dated 6 July 2020, the inspection report provided with the car highlights its overall good condition and the quality of the restoration. The bodywork is sound and so is the cream-coloured paintwork which reflects a job well done. The upholstery has also been carefully renovated. Mechanically, the car has its original engine block. It is equipped with Boge shock absorbers and a stainless-steel exhaust. The cylinder-head gasket and the water pump were changed in 2020 and the soft top (brackets and seal) was checked this year. This beautiful 4.2L version is just waiting to get back on the road.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
