This car was mentioned in a letter to the editor in the Sept '80 issue of Ejag magazine. The writer, Edgar Johnson wrote:
"I have an XKE roadster which I understand came from England via an army captain who ordered it special. It has 3 SUs, high 9 to 1 compression, plain valve covers, etc. The maker's plate states that itis a 9 to 1 motor. It is a 1970 car. I showed it at formal concours. In six shows it has six first place wins and four best of show wins with points of 97.7 or high 90s, but most of the judges knock the engine, saying it is not stock. Some say is one of a the kind. So how do I find out about this?
I'm the fourth owner and I paid a lot of money for this car. It has 24,506 miles on it and is better than new. I bought it three years ago and have put only about 300 miles a year on it. Here are the specifics:
On maker's (commission) plate: Car No. 1R12375; Body No. 4R6916; Engine No. 7R10248-9; Gearbox No. KE11500.
PS. The judges tell me the car will not be judged for national first or second or even be considered.
The editor responded that the judges were uninformed.

In 2006, when I bought this car from a dealer in St. Louis, they posted the following ad - "This car was mentioned in a letter to the editor in the Sept '80 issue of Ejag magazine. The writer, Edgar Johnson wrote:

I've driven it sparingly in Pittsburgh and South Carolina (<200 miles/year). I have the plaques and trophies from the judging mentioned above.
This was serviced by one mechanic in Pgh who specialized in Porsches and Jaguars. In South Carolina, the servicing has been done by Glenn at Performance Unlimited in Abbeville.
Seat belts and fuel filter have been added.

I bought the car at auction in the UK in 2019 and since then have converted to RHD, removed the extra lights that were added to comply with USA regs and full respray.
The car runs great and has been serviced regularly by the Splined Hub Garage in Oundle
