Car to be sold at auction
www.christies.com/LotFinder/search/LOTDETAIL.ASP

Auction description:
For Sale by Auction Tuesday 7th December 2004
Exceptional Motor Cars & Automobilia
Including the Robert Fellowes Photographic Archive at The Jack Barclay Showroom

1969 JAGUAR E-TYPE 4.2 LITRE SERIES 2 ROADSTER
Registration No. TBA
Chassis No. 1R1267
Engine No. 7R6342-9

Opalescent blue with dark blue leather interior with a dark blue hood

Engine: six cylinder twin overhead camshaft, triple SU carburettors, 265bhp at 5,400rpm, 4,235cc; Gearbox: four speed synchromesh; Brakes: Dunlop servo-assisted discs; Suspension: independent, double wishbones with torsion bars to front, independent rear with twin coil spring/damper units on each side. Right hand drive.

Though we do not know the early history of this particular car, it was first registered in the UK on August 15th 1969 and passed through several owners before acquisition by Seascape Forwarding Ltd in May 1984 when it wore the registration mark 'YJO 25'. They kept the car for three years before it was bought by Hermann Leyenmaar of Walton-on-Thames who commissioned renowned marque specialists Southern Classics of Chertsey in Surrey to carry out a 'nut and bolt' restoration to exacting standards. In October 1989, after completion of the restoration, it was then sold by Southern Classics to a wealthy Greek shipping magnate; John Papandreou at which time it had covered 66,497 miles. It was purchased by the current owner in 1999, initially company registered, it was then transferred to the private residence in 1999.

When recently inspected by a Christie's specialist, the vehicle displayed just 69,935 miles on the odometer. As testament to the coveted life it has led, assisted by the climate controlled storage facility it has resided in, it is near impossible to identify that it had been restored some fifteen years ago. Panel fit and paint finish are without fault, the interior is supple, unmarked and only lightly used and the engine bay is extremely well presented. Apart from a 1980s Clarion stereo the car appears original and though not driven, the engine ran very well indeed.

Series 2 roadsters are rarely found in this condition and this is certainly one of the finest examples we have ever seen. Included in the history file are some bills, copies of previous V5 documents and a collection of MOT certificates dating back to 1978.

Sports Car Monthly (4/05) condition comment from Christie's auction 12/7/04: "Odo: 63,957. Excellent paintwork over a good body presentation. Good gaps and recently replaced rubber gaskets. Not a fresh restoration, but still quite nice. Half-inch ding on the center of the rear bumper. Otherwise all good outside. Interior shows only light wear. Stock, original, and complete. Clarion sound system is the only exception. Cond: 2+. Sold at $59,267"
