    Ebay item 9/12/13
    cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/4-2-L-4-SPEED-NICELY-RESTORED-RED-OVER-BLACK-FRESH-CONV- ...
Car has a buy it now price of $59,995 for 20 days. Car now said to be in Lithia Springs, Georgia. 7k miles.

    Sellers description:
1970 Jaguar E-Type Series II OTS. Impressive bodywork, a fully removable quick-release steering wheel, a freshly overhauled 4.2 liter inline-six, and a manual transmission.

Fit and finish are extremely good, with excellent gaps, even at the edges of the massive hood which can always be problematic. The chrome on this car is quite nice, the bumpers fit flush to the body, and the marker lights are all clear and bright (no Lucas jokes, please).

With more than $4200 spent recently on the interior, it looks every bit as gorgeous as the artists at Coventry intended when it was built. Supportive bucket seats, a new center console, and correct wool carpets make the interior every bit as dramatic as the bodywork. Timeless Smiths gauges are a British auto industry tradition, and a new wood steering wheel is like a work of art, and you'll be thrilled to see it's also been cleverly retrofitted as quick-release setup. It only takes a few moments to remove the wheel, giving you plenty of extra room to easily get in and out comfortably. Although not an upgrade you see every day, we're sure that once you find how quick and easy it is, you'll wonder why every car doesn't have it installed. To the right of the wheel, you'll note the long row of rocker switches (a timeless E-Type tradition), and the modern AM/FM/CD stereo is a big improvement over the original. The brand new black canvas top, complete with glass rear window, hides under a new correct boot, and the boot (that's the trunk to us Yanks) is immaculately finished with the original spare wire wheel and jack assembly.

With more than $8600 in recent mechanical receipts, the engine was fully overhauled and features a new water pump, radiator, and thermostat, rebuilt distributor and electronic ignition system, a fresh fuel pump, and a refurbished gas tank out back. There's a new clutch ahead of the 4-speed manual transmission, and all four brake discs and their respective pads were replaced. In fact, the independent suspension was rebuilt and there's a new exhaust system that provides the most bone-chilling soundtrack this side of Lemans. Gorgeous chrome wire wheels are the perfect finishing touch on a Jaguar of this caliber, and wear 205/70/15 radials for the right tall profile to fill the wheel arches properly.

This 1970 Jaguar XKE is a Series II open two-seater that was built on February 12, 1970 and originally distributed in the US through British Leyland in New York. Finished in red over black leather, the car is powered by its numbers-matching 4.2-liter DOHC inline-six and is equipped with a four-speed manual gearbox, black convertible top, black top boot, 15″ knock-off wire wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, PerTronix electronic ignition, and a CD stereo. The suspension and brake systems were overhauled in 2012, prior to the seller’s acquisition in September 2013. Service in June 2020 included rebuilding the starter motor, replacing the drive belts, and bleeding the clutch fluid. This XKE is now offered with an owner’s manual, Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, service records, and transferable Alabama registration in the seller’s name. Originally finished in British Racing Green, the body was repainted red at an unknown point in the past.

Chrome 15″ knock-off wire wheels are wrapped in 205/70 General Altimax tires. The suspension was overhauled in 2012 by Empire Autohaus of Pelham, Alabama, with new ball joints, control arm bushings, and wheel bearings. The power-assisted disc brakes were also serviced and received new rotors, pads, and lines.

The cabin is trimmed in black leather and features matching-color carpets and door panels, as well as a black dashboard. Equipment includes a JVC CD stereo, wooden shift knob, Jaguar-branded floor mats, and black lap belts.

A wood-rimmed factory steering wheel frames a a 160-mph speedometer and 6k-rpm tachometer from Smiths. Gauges for battery voltage, oil pressure, water temperature, and fuel level are located in the center dash. The five-digit odometer shows approximately 7k miles, and true mileage is unknown.

The 4.2-liter DOHC inline-six features twin carburetors and was rated for 246 horsepower when new. A PerTronix electronic ignition module was fitted in 2012 along with new engine mounts. Service in March 2019 included replacing the oil pan gasket, rebuilding the rear transmission mount, and adjusting the ignition timing. In June 2020 the drive belts were replaced and the starter was rebuilt. Block stamping 7R10955-9 matches the engine number noted on the under-hood identification plate and Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The clutch hydraulic fluid was flushed and bled in June 2020.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate lists factory colors and identification numbers as well as manufacture and dispatch dates. An owner’s manual, lug wrench, hammer, and service records are included in the sale.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
