Ebay item 8/3/04
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jaguar-E-Type-E-Type-1970-Jaguar-XKE_W0QQitemZ1901367088 ...
Current bid $20,100 reserve not met, 18 bids, 3 days left in auction.

Sellers description:
1970 ‘XKE’ 4.2. I have owned this car since 1988 and am the second owner. This car is truly a work of art. It is red with a tan interior and tan top (new and never been up in the 19 years that I have owned it). Who in their right mind would drive an ‘XKE’ with the top up? This cat will come to life with just a twist of the key and as always it just loves to show off with it’s snarling exhaust, outstanding speed and road handling to match. This has always been a local car and kept out of the weather and has no rust. All the mechanicals are perfect. The paint is 19 years old but still holds a very good gloss. The interior is like new. The only exception to this all-original car is the color. (What were they thinking when they painted it a dark brown from the factory? YUCK!)
If you would want to be seen and always get priority parking wherever you go, you can’t beat this combination of style and poise.
All said and done, this is not a made up trailer queen. It was meant to be driven and believe me I did just that on every occasion the Texas weather would allow. Hence: the low mileage. I would not hesitate to drive this car to wherever it finds it’s new home. I have driven this vehicle over 400 miles on one day trips to San Antonio and Austin from Houston. It just loves the open road to show it’s true character.
Please note that the paint is near perfect with no scratches, dings or dents. The only paint flaw is on the louvers. Amazing for 19 years old but always covered and in a climate controlled area. I hope the proud new owner will drive it as I did or even more and not ruin it by making it in to a trailer queen. I would hate for that to happen and so would she (the car). Oh by the way, you know it is an English car and is cold natured. You have to use the choke to start when cold. The lever and control for the choke works just fine but I have misplaced the knob. Just in case your sharp eye catches the missing knob in the pictures.

Opening bid $35,000 reserve not met, no bids yet 6 days left in auction.

Sellers description:
I have decided to sell my 1970 Jaguar XKE Series II Roadster. Needs to go to someone who will appreciate her beauty and mystery.
Been restored with origional parts kept where possible, including the radio and rebuilt carbs. 4.2 litre engine with dual Stromberg carbs. Stainless steel exhaust. Red with biscuit leather interior. She is a driver, not a "trailer queen", but a classy head turner at shows or just driving around the Hill Country. 99.685 car in Concours. Everything works, even the origional radio! NO OIL LEAKS. Good compression an all cylinders, and runs like a sewing machine. She is not perfect, but close to it, and like I said I wanted a driver, not something I would be afraid to drive and enjoy.

Opening bid $30,000 reserve not met, no bids yet 9 days left in auction. Car now said to be in Lost Pines, Texas. 56k miles.

Sellers description:
1970 Jaguar XKE Series II Roadster. All origional, even the radio works. Older restoration, and needs nothing done, unless you want a "Trailer Queen". I have moved to the country and have to drive down a gravel road, so the Jag does not need to do that. I have enjoyed this car for many years and now it is time for someone else to have her. She is a beauty, runs like a sewing machine, and has no oil leaks. She was a 99.6 concours car in the drivers class. Always kept in a garage covered up. She is not a "trailer queen", but a real sports car that is fun to drive and enjoy, a real head-turner. No mechanical issues at all, and she does not run hot. I am the 3rd owner of this car, purchased from a collector. Engine is the standard, double overhead cam for that time. Compression has been checked and is strong in all cylinders.

Auction description:

Chassis: 1R13489

58k Miles Shown, TMU

4.2-Liter Inline-Six

Rebuilt Dual Stromberg Carburetors

4-Speed Manual Transmission

Repainted Red

Replacement Tan Soft Top

Tan Leather Upholstery

15" Knock-Off Wire Wheels

Four-Wheel Disc Brakes

Private Party Or Dealer: Private Party

This 1970 Jaguar XKE is a Series II roadster that has been repainted in red over a tan leather interior and is powered by a numbers-matching 4.2-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. The car reportedly spent decades in Texas prior to being purchased by the seller in 2011, and servicing under current ownership included refurbishing the speedometer, rebuilding the carburetors, replacing the clutch slave cylinder, and installing a replacement tan convertible top. This XKE is now offered with service records since 2008, a removed shift knob, and a clean Ohio title in the seller’s name.

The car is said to have been finished in brown from the factory and was repainted in red under prior ownership in the 1980s. A concealed antenna was added when the car was repainted, and the seller had the tan convertible top replaced in March 2021. An invoice for the top replacement is provided. The seller notes a pea-sized dent beneath the driver-side bottom corner of the trunk, a pea-sized dent in the rear bumper, and bubbling paint exhibited around the hood louvers, close-up photos of which are presented in the gallery.

Chrome-finished 15″ wire wheels with Jaguar knock-off hubs are wrapped in 185-series Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. Power-assisted disc brakes are fitted at all four corners, and the braking system was flushed and bled in 2014.

The interior is trimmed in tan leather with matching carpeting and door panels, offset by a black dashboard and black rubber floor mats. Amenities include a Becker Europa AM/FM radio and a wooden shift knob, and the seller notes that the removed factory black shift knob is included in the sale.

A wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows just under 58k miles, approximately 1,300 of which have been added by the seller. The speedometer cable was replaced in 2014.

The 4.2-liter inline-six is equipped with dual Stromberg carburetors that were rebuilt in 2014. The valve-cover gasket and exhaust-flange gasket were replaced under prior ownership in 2008, and the oil was changed in preparation for the sale.

Engine stamping 7R11555-9 matches the number displayed on the Jaguar builder’s plate.

Power is routed to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission. The clutch slave cylinder was replaced in 2014.
