Original UK right hand drive. Matching numbers. Chassis number 1R20371 left the factory on 6th August 1969, in Signal Red with black upholstery, and was registered HFC1. It appears it then passed to Mr Illsey who had the car restored in the late 1980's by Martin Robey Engineering. Going by the invoice it had everything replaced, so this was a new bodied car again by 1989. It was retrimmed at the same time. During this period it never had much use and had covered 44,500 miles.

It was purchased by its last owner in 2011, this owner had the engine rebuilt and covered a further 4,500 miles, most of these on a European classic road trip, the car now shows 50,000 miles which is understood to be genuine. Before it took part in the trip he removed the bumpers and put the roundel stickers on the car for a more sporty look. We have the bumpers and can remove the stickers. The car has fantastic oil pressure, sounds amazing and is the best driving E Type I have driven. This is an ideal car to drive and enjoy.

This 1970 Jaguar E-Type Series 2 Fixed Head Coupe is a smart example of a perennially popular British classic, which has been kept in sound mechanical order and presents in very good condition throughout. Under the bonnet is the 4.2-litre straight-six engine, which produces up to 265bhp and is paired with a four-speed manual gearbox. The odometer currently indicates 52000 miles.

First registered in January 1970 as ‘HFC 1’, this right-hand drive E-Type left the factory in Signal Red with a black interior. It was initially restored in the late 1980s by Martin Robey Engineering, and the indicated mileage is believed to be correct. It has been with its current keeper for two years.

The distinguished bodywork of this Series 2 is in good order, and comes finished with resprayed Signal Red paintwork. The condition of the finish has been described as fair, with some micro-blistering on the roof and around the rear wheel arches, though it retains an attractive shine throughout. A few light stone chips can be seen on the chrome front bumper, while some light discolouration can be seen around the window clips, though the rest of the body trim appears to be in excellent condition, and the vendor has fitted new rubber seals. The vehicle rides on a set of 15-inch wire wheels, which are in superb order.

The cabin still features its original black leather upholstery, which has some creasing and surface cracking, but no visible rips or other significant damage. A couple of light marks can be seen in the door cards, though the black carpets and leather dashboard top are in excellent condition, along with the three-spoke steering wheel and gear knob. The dashboard panel has the full complement of Smiths instrument gauges, which display a charming patina, and the bank of rocker switches is also in good order. There are no known faults with any of the buttons or other electrical items.

The last routine maintenance was undertaken in 2020, where technicians at Moonwhizz Ltd in Ashtead overhauled the gearbox, carried out an engine oil service, and changed the brake fluid. During the last keeper’s custody, the car has also been fitted with a new starter motor, fuel pump, washer fluid tank, engine bay leads, upgraded carburettors and a new dual fan aluminium radiator.

This E-Type is exempt from an annual MOT under historic car status, with the last test occurring on 1 February 2018 at 49,898 miles, which resulted in a failure due to a deteriorated ball joint dust cover, excessive play in the offside rear anti-roll bar, and a split in the nearside steering rack gaiter. It is believed that these items were subsequently rectified though. The wheels come wrapped with Avon Radial Steel tyres, which are reported to be in very good condition.

This Jaguar E-Type Series 2 4.2 Fixed Head Coupe is a generally superb example of the beloved classic, which benefits from a characterful straight-six engine, a refurbished gearbox, and a prior extensive restoration in the late 1980s. While the next owner could choose to make some minor cosmetic improvements, this is a wonderfully usable sporting coupe as-is, presenting with a vibrant paint finish and a beautifully aged interior.

The exterior has a period-correct appearance, with chrome front and rear bumpers, and the car rides on a set of 15-inch wire wheels shod in Avon Radial Steel tyres. 

Inside, it has the correct seats, plus a leather-trimmed steering wheel, and a full complement of Smiths instrument gauges and dash-mounted rocker switches. 

The vehicle will be accompanied by a raft of history and invoices, and its Jaguar Heritage certificate.  

CONDITION  

The attractive bodywork of this Series 2 is noted by the seller to present in good order, and comes finished in repainted Signal Red paintwork. The condition is generally good, with the roof and both sides having recently been repainted to correct micro-blistering. 

There is now a chip on the nearside below where the bonnet stops, and another mark on the offside of the car between the door and the bonnet. 

A few light stone chips can be seen on the chrome front bumper, while some light discolouration can be seen around the window clips, though the rest of the body trim appears to be in excellent condition, and has been fitted with new rubber seals. 

The cabin still features its original black leather upholstery, which has some creasing and surface cracking, but no visible rips or significant damage. A couple of light marks can be seen in the door cards, the passenger door card appears slightly loose, and there are signs of chipping and corrosion in and around the door edges and in the door shuts. 

There seller is not aware of any electrical or mechanical faults with the car.  

SERVICE HISTORY  

The seller state that this E-Type’s most recent routine maintenance was carried out in 2021 by Jaguar specialist Moonwhizz, with work including a brake fluid, gearbox oil, engine oil, and filter change. 

Prior to this, the technicians at Moonwhizz serviced the car in September 2019, overhauling the gearbox, replacing the radiator and coolant hoses, renewing the spark plugs and HT leads, tuning the engine, and fitting new door mirrors. 

During its current ownership, the car has also been fitted with a new starter motor, upgraded carburettors and a new dual fan aluminium radiator. The bonnet, roof and the sides of the car are also noted to have been repainted to improve their cosmetic appearance.
